Citro less

Unread post by Gregg1100 »

Just sold my 98 S2 Xantia- first time Citro less for a good few years. It needed work that I could no longer do. I will still visit this great site, not so much for the cars, but for all the people that I have met in all the years of Citro ownership. Our son is still Citro mad- takes after his dad, lol- having a part Citroen, namely the C5- 138 bhp VTX.
IF I do get another car, it will be small, cheap on the legals and fuel-- at the mo, a bus pass serves me well and the 500cc Kawasaki gets me where I want to be in a hurry.
Thanks to ALL in this forum for the help I have been given over the years- I hope I have helped out sometimes in return.

Sorry to lose you but the early 2.0. Hdi C5 fulfils all your requirements except for size, the will do up to 60 mpg driven gently and the road tax is only £140.00 per year. You can buy a good one for £500 - 1000.00

While the Xantia is comfortable, wife and I found it harder to get out of because you sit lower in the car. Besides which, they are too complicated for me now.

By a small car, I meant something like a 1.1 Pug 106, Punto or Saxo. No point having a larger car now caravan has gone. That is if I bother with a car at all.
Bus to town every 10 mins in day- Tesco, Iceland or Asda can deliver my shopping to door---taxi to a function and back--coach to go on holiday in.
No servicing, maintenance, tax, insurance, MOT blues- fuel costs. Sounds good, I like it.

Anyone looked at the new C4?. What a load of completely over the top cobblers that is. I went with a friend to look at one. Apparently buyers will get a dvd showing how to work all the electronics before they take delivery.. You can change the way speedo looks, and the colours. Lane departure warnings- possible side impact warnings, and a load more totally unnecessary junk. More toys than Gamleys. More electronic boxes at sky high prices to catch out the unwary when they buy a C4 when it gets past warranty time.

Hi Peter,
206 HDi is a no go for me. All that engine stuffed into a little engine bay will mean you can't get at anything without a big struggle- bad enough with Xantia. No need for 2 litre engine, and it will still have unnecessary junk attached to it.
I will want a basic car- preferably with no abs, air con and not bothered by electric windows even. It will be a 4 door though- had a 2 door once, never again.
Greg

I share Greg's view, though a minimum of electronics seems to be essential in building an engine that will comply with emmissions regs. Renault seem to be going in the right direction for us with the Dacia Duster (nice and tall) and Sandero. But I do wonder about the build quality of the RHD models (built in India) and Renaults abysmal record on electrical reliability.

Then there's the not so small consideration that many potential customers (like Greg and me) won't buy new!

Now a Duster for under £10 grand, with 2WD, a modern diesel and a basic hydropneumatic system (like an S1 Xantia), I seriously would consider buying (don't worry dear, our savings are safe: there's no chance Renault would do such a thing and if they did, they'd never be able to make enough of them to satisfy the Indian home market).

Try a pug 107 or cit c1. The tiny 1,0 3 cylinder engine has loads of room around it, earlier ones prone to clutch failure, uprated clutch approx £100 and easy job. Apart from that get an urban lite as I had and it is basic, no fancy electronics here. You get a body, seats, engine gearbox and thats about it! Nothing to go wrong. Cheap insurance group and £20 a year tax. It's all you need. So much room around engine do a full service in record time.

Moggy Minor or Trumpy would do me ok, if you could get one that hadn't rusted away or cost the same as a mansion, lol.

Just bought a Fart Punto 1.2, 2005, a nice little buzzbox, which for SWMBO is easier to get into/out of than the Cit. Easier for us anyway.
Bit disappointed to find out that they have hung just as much electrical CRAP on this as the Xantia. Same aircon resister junk, same abs junk, and other junk I have yet to find out about. . At least there is plenty of room in the engine area to do the basics easily. Got a Haynes BOL ordered from fleabay. The Fart is tinny compared with the Xantia, but two different price tags when they were new.

See all the technical terms I have learnt from you lot---BOL, crap electrics, oh hell, what has gone wrong now, what's that red stop light grinning at me for- why is the car on it's bum, and no brakes or pas, lol.??
