C5 Speedo Q..

Post by citroenxm »

Hi C5 ers..

Ive a new customer with a 51 plate C5 HDi 110 ... The MILES on the speedo count up, However the needle doesnt work.

I checked the Needle stepper motor on the Lexia, and it worked correctly. Is the miles and needle driven seperatly?? Or are we needing a replacment speedo head?

I think the same signal drives the speedo and mileometer. The fault on the stepper motor is a mechanical one so won't show on the Lexia, its working OK but not moving the needle.

Or replace the stepper motor. Use the one from the tacho if you're not bothered about that or grab a second hand panel with a different fault.

Just don't price a new speedo unit from Citroen, its followed by a lengthy laying down period

Yep, just the stepper motor, which is lucky as replaceing the speedo unit can be a can of worms if the doner car has higher mileage.

I had this with one of our C5s but I didn't know about the stepper motor replacement at the time. However I was lucky enough to find the right speedo unit sat on a shelf at a local French car parts place. Brand new and boxed for £70, that is a mahoosive discount on Citroens 'plucked form the air' figure.

At least it has the right engine, Paul  Arm shouldn't be too bad, is it just the radius bearing? Pretty similar to a Xantia. And for the cambelt, there is probably more room in the C5s engine bay than the Xantia, so you should be ok :)

You never know, it might sway you around to the idea of a C5

If i go for a c5 chris recent events with the s h i t e y psa/ford 1600 is a massive no for me so it would have to be s2 c4 type front 2.0 16v 138bhp dw10 engine for me..i do like the s2 its a better car all round..

Im not worried about the jobs to do yes the 2.0 8v does look lost in there and loads a room.. just hope the arm swap job wont rear any issues.. the car has had a recent new n/s caliper too from his previous mechanic to solve the leaning issue.. so that should come off easilly enough.. cam belt.. a doddle..

Don't know what you're worrying about Chris, the new instrument panel is only £540

Paul - Peter N was doing C5 rear arms at the same time I was fighting with my Xantia. Pin in the ram is problematic, but as it's under the subframe rather than in it as per Xantia, access is a bit better to try and drive it out.
