bleeding screws

Hi everyone........could anyone tell me where the cooling system bleed screws are located on my 1995 1.8 sx xantia petrol car, and the procedure for bleeding same? After the summer my heater does not deliver the heat it did last winter although the temp guage is reading normal.I had this problem when i first purchased the car and a mechanic i then knew bled the system for me which cured the problem. I think this could be the same cause, unfortunately I have relocated since then and am no longer in touch with the mechanic.

Based on the same 1.8 8 valve engine as fitted into 306's, there is one bleed on the RH of the radiator, one on the thermostat housing and one on one of the two hoses as they go through the bulkhead to the heater matrix.
Unlike the 306, Xantia expansion tanks are higher than the engine, heater and radiator so fill and bleed the lowest bleed screw, the next highest and typivally the heater hose bleed will be the last one.
This should fix it - unless your car has automatic climate control. Then the problem can be the cc control system - the cabin temp. sensor failed on mine - the car was always too cold.

The expansion tank is certainly not higher than the engine or heater on my Xantia TD.
Bleeding is made easier by parking the car on a steep slope with the car pointed up hill, and with the engine running maybe you'll get all of the air out eventually...

I found a length of standard plastic wastepipe, (the kind found under your kitchen sink) fit nicely into the header tank filler with a minimum of padding. I actually stuck an old cloth over the end of the pipe and stuffed that into the filler opening, this sealed around the pipe whilst letting water through the fabric where it was required.

My own cooling system bleeding device consists of any standard PET pop bottle, remove cap, cut off bottom and put two or three wraps of insulation tape around the threads, remove the pressure cap and it fits neatly into the hole enabling you to keep a head of water above the bleed screws.
