405 driveshafts

Post by paul_evans_99 »

I assume that you mean a 1.9D 405? There was certainly no 1.6 Diesel.
Yes, the hubs will fit as all 405 front hubs are the same and share the same wheel bearing.
However the driveshafts will not interchange so readily.
405 1.9D (normally aspirated) shafts are different than the 1.9 SRi.
The SRi shafts are shared with the following 405 models:
1.7TD
1.9 SRi
1.9 Mi16
The 1.9D Shafts fit
1.9D
1.6 Carb
1.9 Carb
In addition,1.9TD shafts are different again, and do not interchange with any of the above fitments.
But in answer to your question, theres no reason why you can't use 1.9D hubs on your SRi, only the gearbox end of the shaft diffrs.

while looking back at this old post i began to think back to when i replaced the gearbox on my 405. I can remember being told that a gear box off any xu engined 405 would be a suitable replacement. So how is it that the gearbox end of the driveshafts are different between the different models? surely if the gearbox is the same then the ends of the driveshafts should be the same? does any one know if this is true or am i just talking rubbish? Paul.

Sorry to resurrect this post, but I have a question...
Can anyone tell me what is the size of the hub nut on a 405 driveshaft?
I have a driveshaft, in a GKN box with a part number for a 205 on the box, however, the driveshaft is clearly too big for a 205. The hub nut size is 35mm and the 205 size is 32mm. I am taking a guess that it is driveshaft for a 405 that has been incorrectly boxed. If that is the case, I will put this driveshaft up for sale.
Cheers,
Antony

I undone the nuts on my 405 driveshatfts with a 36mm socket but i think that that a 35mm would have been the correct size since the 36 was a little loose. i have no ideaabout 205s though.

That's good enough for me. 405/Xantia driveshaft it is then.
Anybody need a brand new GKN N/S driveshaft for a 405/Xantia?
£25 + p & p.
