Is the inlet manifold gasket a reusable rubber type on the C5 V6? Looking at the exploded view it seems that it might be. I'd like to know whether I will need a replacement before I remove it.

If they are simmilar to the Xantia, then you could prehaps get away with reuseing it ONCE as long as it doesnt Tear when lifting the manifold away. However, thats a risk taken, its probably best to go ahead and get one in, your safe either way, and im sure they arent expensive either..

The later V6 engine, the ES9J4S has a rubber gasket that you don't need to change.

I've had the inlet off our 406 Coupe twice now to replace coils and have had the C5 one off as well and haven't had to replace either.

The 406 has now done about 20k miles since it was last off and hasn't missed a beat.

General consensus on the 406 Coupe forum is that this gasket can be removed/refitted around 7 or 8 times before needing replaced.

I wondered if that might be the case being that it's a plastic manifold rather than the nice alloy job on the earlier engines.

Optimist. :lol: I'd say the gasket... ;)

Even if its reusable I'd probably have one on hand if it were me and I relied on the car for daily transport. Accidents happen...

It annoys me how easy the paper gasket on the Xantia V6 tears - the only reason it tears is because the locating peg at one end is on the bottom section and the peg at the other end is attached to the top section - so any sideways movement before the peg is freed from the gasket tears it.

Why they couldn't just put both pegs in the bottom half I don't know. Mind you I've only torn one so far which is probably as much luck as skill given the numbers of times I've had the inlet manifold off now... (Probably over 10 times now :twisted: )

I Changed mine when I Installed new plugs and coils. A few weeks ago I had to change those damned VVT-solenoids and didn't even look at the gasket then (I had to move the intake manifold a bit). Car has worked fine so I guess nothing bad happened.

I bought the gasket from the "marble counter", official Citroen dealer and it was f*cking expensive, something like over thirty euros. But I guess you can get one cheaper somewhere else.

The point in this nonsense babbling of mine is, I would change the gasket if I didn't know how many times the manifold has been removed before.

I would guess that it has never been off as i9t's only done 22.5k since new. As I don't have to rely on the car I think I will just dive in and see what happens. If it's got Eyquem plugs in there then I'll know for sure.

What gives with the VVT solenoids?

^They started to leak oil like hell. From what I gathered from finnish Citroen-forum the solenoids tend to last around 200 000 kms, mine were just under 190. Easypeasy job changing them, but they cost 200 euroa each :(

You can usually tell they're due (worn inside) when they get really rattly at cold startup.

Only ever seen the Benz ones leak before mechanical wear kicks in.
