Squeeky ZX

I have a ZX Aura 1.9D. When starting up, changing gears and decreasing speed when braking it makes a terrible squeeking sound. When I get going on a run the squeeking stops.
Any thoughts or remedies?

Sounds to me like a classic sign of a slipping auxiluary drivebelt. Check the tension - there should be some slack but not too much.

Will check in the morning. Is it easy enough to do myself? If so, how do I go about it?
