Xantia, new headunit and CD changer. NEW WIRING PROBLEM!

Unread post by lankytim »

Hi.

I've got hold of a genuine Citroen head unit and boot mounted CD changer from a Xantia exclusive. Should it all just plug in and work or do I need a Lexia to program it in? Its a clarion changer and the head unit is the "flush front" Xantia type.

Cheers!

Tim.

It's plug and play, Lexia not required.

Happy listening :)

Yay. That is good news, thankyou.

Daft question time. How do you put the code in? It's just showing 4 dashes on the display.

Varies depending on the unit... some you just press the relevant numbers, some you need to press buttons 1-4 the appropriate number of times, some need to have have something (band?) pressed first before it will allow input, some need band pressing at the end to 'enter' the code

If you can't sort it from what Richard said, then tell us the unit's details, and we'll tell you the secret :-D

Cheers guys, It's all working now!

BUT..

The top connector block on the radio unit won't fit the existing wiring meaning that the steering wheel controls don't work and I have to re-enter the code every time I take the keys out. I either need to splice a section of loom in with the right connector or look for some sort of adaptor. Any ideas??

Check the wiring. One pin is for permanent live, to keep the memory settings active (and the code as well), while a different pin is from the ignition. You can, if you are careful, swap these on the plug.

I thought of doing that, but the connector is different although it's physically the same size and looks like it should fit.

ahh yes. Phillips single deck tape or cd units use a different Steering control plug to the Clarion.

You will need the harness section from the radio to the steering connector under the colum to make it fit..

Lexia is rarely needed on a Xantia for anything, except reading engine faults...

All other stuff really is simply plug and play.

If the - - - - dash's are on hold BND for 5 seconds till code in appears, then simply press the appropiate buttons for the code.

It will auto enter after the 4th number.

Your Permaenent Feed and Live feed must be mixed up into the back of the radio.. if you need to keep entering the code or the Permaenent feed is missing to the memory line on the back.. Im sure the Phillips and Clarions Memory and Live feeds are in different positions, hence the "Looseing" memory issue, its not actually a fault in the car or radio.

If you could check for me that would be great, in the mean time theres a Xantia in the local breakers. Im sure it originally had a Phillips head unit though.

Do you have any idea which wire needs moving to get the permament live in the right place?

Spent my lunchtime with a multimeter and swapped the two thick pink wires over. Result? A working radio. Hooray!
