doseur valve removal

Post by french Dave »

Dear All
my sons first car is a xantia 1.9td, anbd it has sprung a LHM leak which seems to be coming from the Doseur valve and is leaking to the garage floor not in to the car.
I have looked at the haynes manual.(Rubbish) it says undo mounting bolts.
Question is where are they? Do you unbolt it from inside the car by the brake pedal?
i cannot see anything in the engine bay, or is it that hard to get to?
If the return pipes are the cause of the leak, I have read that you can cut and shorten them, once the valve has been losened and turned to get access.
Am I going on the right lines, and has anyone got a photo of where the bolts are?
Thanks

hi and welcome

depends on if the fluid is leaking inside the car or in the engine bay,

if the later you are about right,

the nuts holding the doseur valve are behind the pedals,

if its a TD it will make the job a lot easier to remove the intercooler ducting that goes behind the engine,

once the doseur is unbolted pull it away from the bulkhead, then gently rotate it to gain access to the return pipe,

if the leak is inside the car it will be a split protector cap at the pedal end of the doseur,

the procedure is the same as the above, but once it is rotated, prize the alloy ring out followed by the protector cap

the parts required are below from citroen

Hi Dave,

It will be a Return Pipe rubber hose, theres two on them, and they split right by the valve spigot and it leaks down the bulk head to the floor...

The valve is undone from the inside of the foot well.. If you get down in the foot well, remove the cloth "Cover" from around the pedal area, then look at each side of the brake pedal you should see TWO 11mm nuts.. Undo them and the valve will come away from the bulk head.

On an XUD car the inlet is rather high up. Its prehaps best to either get the inlet manifold off, which will mean removing the intercooler pipes off the turbo, or with the engine supported on a jack, remove the top engine mount and lower the engine. It will come down a bit then "Roll" forwards a bit. This should help.

I Gaurentee it will be a split return Pipe most likely on the top of the valve. IF your carefull it can be done in situ and then theres no need to distrupt the high pressure lines..

Ive done two now, and have a third one to do some time in the future..

Don't wish to hijack but I too have a teeny tiny leak from the doseur. Have lhm under the brake pedal, a drop a month. Problem is as the car is lhd to get to the doseur I have to remove the lhm tank and then can't run the engine to find out if it's a pipe or not! Guess when the leak gets worse it'll be obvious.

Inside the car it is most probably the end seal as Malcolm suggested above.

addo's borescope suggestion is bang on - Aldi had them recently very cheaply but they are available from around £12 (need a laptop for the display though at that price)

There you go; they're often on sale here too. The one with a GPS size attached screen is probably better, but they are hard on batteries.

An answer from me, with "scope" in it, that was serious. It happens! :P

Dear All
Have found that the return pipe is indeed the issue.
however it is so bad, that I don't have enough to cut back or connect a new bit on.
Does anyone know what the citroen part number is for the pipe, or advise if I can buy some standard fuel pipe, and if so what size.
Any help would be good.
Thanks

I've had exactly the same problem - LHM everywhere. If you haven't removed the Doseur valve yet, don't. Removing the turbo pipes will give you enough space to see (with a small torch and a 'mirror-on-a-stick') and get at the bottom leak-off pipe. IIRC the pipe diameter is 6mm. Go to a motor factors that sells universal fuel-pipe by the metre. What you need is a length of fuel pipe, right-angle and straight plastic connectors. Push a short length of fuel pipe to the valve stub, the right-angle connector joins its other end to the original pipe (which you've cut out it's bent bit). You've got plenty of spare pipe to cut back the original pipe a long way if necessary, using the straight joiner. The pipes aren't under any pressure so I didn't bother with pipe clips.

Pay no attention to the shape of any pipes shown in citroen.service diagrams for the Xantia - more often than not the actual pipe looks nothing like that shown. They are, at best, schematic diagrams not drawings.

A very IMPORTANT point there! Has a recent disagreement with a dealer (location removed to protect the innocent) when we needed a return pipe for a strut. I got the part number, and the parts guy took in a deep breath and said, its only an inch long! as thats ALL the service.citroen micro fitch showed. I said, just order it please! he said ok.. when it arrived of course it was a full length 5 inches or so long!
