I couldn't bear it any longer...

Unread post by Stempy »

...so I went and bought an '02 C5 Exclusive.

I know it's not as pretty as a Xantia and not a proper hydraulic Citroen, but it's got spheres and a V6 engine and an autobox and it only has 22,500 miles on the clock! And it's in my favourite Mauritius blue colour.

I was actually looking at a nice 60,000 mile Xantia but the C5 came up and was cheaper so seemed like too good an opportunity to pass by.

So far, the only thing that seems not to be working is the screen wash pump. I've got a DVD manual on the way so will investigate when that arrives. Looks like a bit of a learning curve after the Xantia and no doubt I'll be poncing ago on a Lexia at some stage.

Anyway, it's nice to be back in Citroen ownership and all that it entails [-o<

Nice one :) I would suggest a timing belt change for peace of mind like what David did. Since its probably still on the one from factory 11 years ago.

Gearbox oil level is a pig to check on these compared to the Xantia btw ;)

Welcome back Stempy. :)

No its not a Xantia, and it may be a bit uglier, but the ES9J4S in the C5 looks (and sounds) like a very nice engine, and a worthwhile bump up from the ES9J4 so I'm sure you'll enjoy it. :)

Welcome back Stempy, once bitten, forever smitten.

I'm not far if you need lexiaing. =D>

I would suggest looking at the fuse for the washer pump, same thing happened to Bruv's C5, pump not working & before he started to dismantle all the stuff to get to it, I said check the fuse. Lo & behold, it had popped. Replaced it, tested system and it still works. Still dont know why it popped. 8-[

I might have a theroy for popped washer fuses... If theres no anti freeze in the washer mixture (Yes some screen wash has a form of anti freeze in it) and its had frozen in the cold weather not so long ago, attempting to operate the washer and frozen water will draw a large current, and wow pop goes the fuse..

Thats all I can assume if replacment has it all working again.

Regarding your old Xantia V6, Stempy, I'm pleased to report that it's got a new lease of life. A friend now owns it as it is now running a manual gearbox...

It unfortunately suffered a headgasket failure, so while it was out - why not?!

So glad to hear she's still on the road. I know a certain New Zealander who might like the autobox;-)

I would suggest that it first gets the CitroJim treatment to make sure it is sound and not likely to introduce new problems. That is NOT to imply it has any faults, but to extend its' working life by 150,000 miles.
