Well, im not certain what it is.. It still pumps as fuel IS getting to the injectors...

Weither that means the pump could still be buggered or not I dont know. I assumed on these modern Common rail fuel systems the fuel pumps Pump or Dont. and nothing in between..

Just wont bloody start.. then when it does it runs a little erraticly then a cloud of smoke.

We have fitted 4 good injectors as we were told they were the issue but no good. Also the rail sensor has been fitted.

The owners have given up now..

Fair enough. I have just changed mine as it wouldnt start. when mine went i heard a little clicking noise before it went. i assumed it was the pump and again it wouldnt start after wards managed to get a puff of black smoke with some engine start. i changed the pump first as i belive they have a teflon lining that disintegrates for some reason (belive they are self lubricated so a miss fuel could cause it) but the teflon gets into the fuel line and blocks the injectors so you can put it in a garage who will strip and flush the fuel tank and replace the entire fuel system at a fair old cost (£1400 for mine using second hand parts) or i sourced a fuel pump and changed that with the timing belt, then flushed the lines out with no injectors on, then put the replacement injectors in (after the flush as if before they are just going to get the same treatment as the originals and blocked with teflon) after this mine is running like a dream (after a new copper washer) and it pumped out black smoke for apx 1 hr at tick over till i burned all the engine start sat in the cat. if its a cheap car just bin it its a ball ache and no guarantee it will resolve your issue. but if you are going to try it keep your eyes on ebay i got pump for £180 and injectors i managed to get for £90 for all 4, copper washer £2 off Renault dealer 1/4 tank of juice to flush and burn all the crap off with
