Lexia operating system compatibility

Post by bamba »

Hello, looking at may be getting lexia soon, but bit put off weather i can get it to run or not, most versions specify windows 98 or xp, while the latest version says it supports windows 7 , but on 32 bit version. I have windows 7 64 bit on my laptop (hp dv7), how easy is it to make it run ? or not , thanks

It's only 32-bit. I can't get it to run properly on 32-bit Win 7.

The best way is to get an old small laptop, install XP with service pack 3 on it and nothing else. It'll work perfectly then. A small old laptop can be had for not much, I run mine on a 1.6ghz machine with 1GB RAM and it's fine.

Interesting Mike, I've seen a lot of people say they can't get it working on Windows 7 32 bit, but I've definitely absolutely had it working on Windows 7 professional 32 bit on a Samsung NC110 netbook - ran absolutely fine. I used Diagbox 7.06 and tested it on my Xantia.

My normal Lexia machine is Windows XP though, I just borrowed the netbook from work to see if it would work, as I'm thinking of picking one up for Lexia use due to much superior battery life, screen brightness and portability compared to our 15" Dell laptop.

Windows 7 64 bit is a no-go though, unless you run a copy of Windows XP inside a virtual machine, I think that's what Ben82 does. :)

I could not either as my nettop came with 7Starter. It installs OK but has concerns when running from what I remember. It may be differing Diagbox versions though, later ones might run OK on 7. I only have 6.01

As above XP and SP3 will suffice just fine. Can disable themes and a few things to speed it up if needed as well.

I did post a while back I wanted it on 2K (as older hardware this is better) although it won't install due to path concerns. It did appear to install on ADV2KS though which is something I'm looking into as in theory the missing components could be added.

Not tried Vista.

Sensible advice is to obtain XP and use that. :)

EDIT... I think its IIS related. I'll be posting a new topic if I find anything of interest.

I can't vouch for 6.xx on Windows 7 32 bit, but 7.02/7.06 worked for me. Here they are if you wanted to try it again ;)

Indeed I do. Windows 7 64bit home premium on a Toshiba Satellite C660 with a core I3 and 6gb of ram (its my work pc) running xp pro in a VirtualBox VM that has 512Mb of ram allocated. Runs fine :) no issues aside from those that people get even without a vm (eg unplug the usb between diagbox and Lexia)

I'm running TinyXP on mine, it's XP professional with SP3 but reduced to its bare bones so that it'll use less memory.

Technically it's naughty pirated software...but then again apparently so is any obtainable copy of Diagbox

I tried MicroXP... Lexia and Diagbox would work with it and it was super speedy.. but lost ability to graph, guessing it was missing something that was required for the Graphing in lexia to work :( Not sure if TinyXP would be the same. (not really an issue for Xantias, but for later models it might be) :)

taffy: you need Diagbox software installed on your laptop and an interface that looks like this:

Image

Usually the interface will come with the software but it may be an older version. The link I posted a few messages ago has downloads for the latest version of Diagbox (7.15) which should work on any interface that came with 6.00 or later. Not all interfaces are of the same quality or compatibility. Some are chinese knock offs that won't work with the latest version of Diagbox or have difficulties talking to certain ECU's on some cars.

I couldn't get it to install on 2k which then forced me to finally update to xp just as 7 was released. Works well on xp.
C'est pas possible!

Mandrake , the above link in a post a few lines above , is that a working copy for down load ? I have some one on the case who can set me up a virtual machine, so was going to have a dry run at it to see if it can work before spending anything.

Yes its a fully working copy. I've been informed that there is a file missing from my 5.29 download (linked elsewhere) which I haven't got around to rectifying yet but the 7.15 version linked above has been tested by me and is what I'm currently using on my own Lexia.

I can confirm that diagbox 7.01+ will run on Vista 16 bit, and successfully interrogated my sister's Xsara II. No excuse for not buying an interface now :)
