Xantia battery drain - central locking

Unread post by Mylittletony »

Hello!

Had a battery drain on my recently acquired 1995 sx turbo d, went away on holiday for 2 weeks and it was absolutely dead flat :(

Drained again over the weekend just gone to the point it wouldn't start after 2 days.

I expected the aftermarket stereo or removed car phone, but testing the battery current and removing fuses suggests it's neither. However, the central locking fuse stopped the 0.2a current. Can anyone suggest what might be causing the problem?

The battery seems pretty tired now, hopefully it's salvageable...

Under the carpet under the passenger seat is the box that controls the indicators when you set the alarm. It's tucked in at the bottom of the B pillar.
I can end up leaving one of the indicators on which drains the battery.
Try disconnecting it.

Sorry, should have mentioned that the alarm fuse was already absent, as was the "coolant temp warning system" one, which is odd as the gauge works fine?

I previously opened the car off the key anyway, but maybe there's a sensor continuously hunting?

I have a similar unsolved problem with the '98 VSX that I've just bought. Twice recently it has completely flattened its battery in a few hours. BUT, it's alarm (klaxon off!) has gone off for no apparent reason while I've been working on the car (the flashing headlights will soon flatten any battery). Yesterday, I found that the battery negative connections were very dodgy and may well have been responsible: in effect effectively disconnecting and reconnecting the battery repeatedly, triggering the alarm at every 'reconnection'. I hope that re-fitting the negative clamp properly and fitting a new cable from clamp to the earth plate on the N/S/F inner wing will solve the problem, but as she's booked in for an MoT this afternoon, I've removed the positive clamp to make sure the battery doesn't go flat!
