2.0 HDi Crank pulley....

Post by RichardW »

Looks (well sounds!) like I am in the market for a new crank pulley - any recommendations on suppliers? I know they are available on e-bay, but are they any good?

Started it up this morning, and it sounded like a machine gun under the bonnet - can't really complain, that's the original pulley, and it's done 146k now =D>

Cheers Malc. Checked the usual suspects - AEP do the OE pulley for £72 inc delivery, and I found a code for 10% off, so one is winging its way to me now  Another job for the weekend....

You're lucky, my replacement was so out of balance the tensioner deflected 10mm each way! I put the old knocking one back and it was smooth as silk again, you really do get what you pay for with crank pulleys.

Fitted a GSF one 8000 miles ago. No problems and very quiet.

AEP delivered next day. Was OK this week, but few hundred yards from home this morning, there was a loud flapping noise from the belt. Hmm, not a good sound, so drove it home and used the C4 instead. Changed it over this evening, and when I got the liner off, I found that it had chewed the outside ridge off the belt, and the chewed off bit was wrapped round the back of the AC compressor. New pulley and belt fitted and it's much quieter - I wonder if the clonking noise I was getting on start and stop was in fact the pulley rather than the engine mount I thought it was - see what it sounds like over the next few days. There is a bit of play in the mount on the inner wing, but it's not obviously clanking about. Old one has a good 2 - 3mm of radial play in it, and has spread rust dust all around the area, so it's obviously been on the wane for a while. That's another of the time related repairs completed, how many more are there to come

Its not time related, two weeks ago the serpentine belt shredded and got under the cambelt which snapped, snapped cam, bent valves, I scrapped the poor car, all of the failed components were 7000 miles old. :x
