Service light.

Unread post by qprdude »

I filled the tank with diesel this afternoon, and when I left the garage, the warning alarm and service light came on. The alarm soon went off, but the service light stayed on for the mile or so home.
The engine management light wasn't on, just the "Service". Could this be anything to do with the fuel additive being used, or even low? There was no message with the warning, like "oil level low" "check tyre pressure" Etc.
After a cuppa, I went out and started the car, and the "service" warning had gone.
Should I be suspicious, or just carry on . 8-[

Eolys getting low ?

Can you put a Lexia on it ? It should show a fault code even though the lights have gone back out, and should also allow you to check how much Eolys is left...

Not strictly true.. when my Mk1's battery was on its way out, and the service light would randomly stay on, Lexia didn't log any errors. Maybe a unique case with the Mk1's known issue with failing battery = very random problems though. :) Worthwhile hooking up a lexia to see what it says though.

#-o  Seems that in my panic when the alarm sounded , I looked around for an open door and missed the "front left tyre deflated" notice. I took the car round the block and when the alarm went, the tyre deflated notice came up.
A couple of hundred yards further on, another warning came up saying "More than one tyre deflated"
I knew the left rear has a very slow leak somewhere, so I put a few pounds in both tyres to bring them to the correct PSI, and the alarms have stopped.
phew!

I am getting the car serviced and tested in a couple of weeks, so I will ask them to check the tyres and valves. I've heard the valve sensor batteries have a life of 5 years so I'm praying they are not knackered as I believe they ain't cheap!

Doesn't the button on the dash to the right of the wheel tell you any faults it has? Mine does. Not all faults but tyre ones.

Yeah, it does mate, but because it happened when I topped up the fuel and missed the warning notice, I assumed wrongly that it was something to do with the fuel. I'm feeling a bit of a plonker right now  , so I'll treat myself to a couple of beers to cheer myself up. :-D

Yeah that should solve it.
On my previous c5s I hated the way the screen wash low and low temp alarm was the same for when things are wrong.
I have had so many faults the sound acted like an anxiety trigger.
Even now when I had a tyre issue I was convinced something wrong, especially when the tyre did not look flat. But it was very low when measured. I was very relieved that once pumped up car was happy.
I know lots of people seem to hate TPMS but I like it. My tyre went down while at work and did not look flat or drive different at the 25 MPH I got up to. If not for the warning I would have driven home on it.

Mine are on a 2005 C5 and they still function correctly - but for how long still?
