Sticky brakes

Post by shoogiesco »

Hi

My c5 was in for MOT yesterday and failed on the brakes, tester says the front brake was sticking and would be either the calipper or the cables.
Is there any way I can find out exactly which one it is?

cheers

I've found that the handbrake levers on the callipers get stiff, sometimes seized, due to the road salt getting past the seals, they can be freed off by applying plenty of WD 40, (use a thin blade to ease the seal back from its facing so that the lube can get in) then work the lever back and forth until it's free.

I unhook the cable and pop the spring off to make it easy, once you're satisfied it's free put some proper lube oil on it and put the spring and cable back on, if the cable's good the spring will pull it back off, if it still drags you'll need cables, and a lot of patience to fit them :) .
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.
