I've got 2 problems with the fuel tank/gauge on my Mk2 XM...
Problem 1... The fuel gauge never reads below 1/4 of a tank and the trip computer will never go below 50 miles left (the fuel light never comes on either) and I know that the tank was empty as I ran out of fuel! I presume then that the level sender must be at fault here, my only assumption is that the rod must be bent as it takes forever to come down from full... is this the only probable cause? (before i take the sender out)
Problem 2 ... Filling the car up.... This is a complete pain considering it's a V6, if it was a diesel it would be less of a concern. As the tank gets more fuel in it the pump will clock off more frequently. So if the tank is empty i can put 10l in and the pump will click off, there will then be a gurgle and then i can put 9l in, then click, gurgle... and so on. This is annoying. I presume the tank ventilation system is at fault /blocked, any pointers?
Cheers
