I was hit amidships by a Corolla driver, who drove off before I could get their plates. It's my third no-fault collision involving Toyota products.



My car is now 50mm narrower, the screen cracked and roof distorted. Yes, I have sideways whiplash and some bruising too.

Remember, this fate tallies PERFECTLY with my comments on oil changes etc - what frequently kills cars is not the subtleties of oil brand or tyre choice, but numpty drivers and high repair costs.

I intend to repair the car, using approved methods and new sections.

i know exactly how you feel Adam bloody incompetent drivers seem to be prevalent these days,

i think to only proper way to sort that would be a good second hand shell,
because with cracked screen and bent roof i would say that shell is way past a proper repair

When it's pulled the roof will come good. It needed a new screen anyway (diamond ring scratches inside, bullseye or two outside).

Would love to reshell with a V6 sunroof shell, but there are none here.

Nasty. Very glad to hear you are essentially OK. It's only a lump of metal and bits when all said and done and can be repaired or replaced. GWS..

My head was declared properly bent many years beforehand; no change there.

Seriously though, it's pushed my costs in directions I'd rather they hadn't gone, short term. Tax and insurance on the Blingo is expensive here (£1400) as it's a commercial vehicle.

I did briefly entertain buying another car, but couldn't justify it as they are all imbued with someone else's deferred spending.

We test-drove Corollas and Yarises at the weekend to find a new conveyance for SHMBO ... very ordinary cars for very uninspired people.
We'll settle for a Mazda 2.

The 2 is the only car we've taken home to test that doesn't scrape the front overhang at the bottom of our driveway.

sorry to see / hear about it. Agree with your comments about drivers too in most cases.

I've had three similar cases, all when parked. The last one I did not find out about (on the 106 although the damage was wing only really all fixed now)

The other two happened on different cars when parked, people just drove into them. In both those cases I had said details although the insurance companies in both cases took around nine months to sort it out, took my no claims away while it was in progress if I remember correctly the first time although talking the broker said a letter saying "do not step back my no claims etc" would help.

They did pay out eventually as I say although the first one was written off was a MK3 Escort (yes I know) car was only worth about £300 ish back then and the repair to a door (hit it hard enough to break the glass!) was well over that.

Second one was a MK2 Astra rear quarter and bumper. They did eventually pay out although it was a hire van that hit it, so much arguments about it. They tried to fit pattern parts but as I worked in a bodyshop at the time I asked people to have words and we got gen parts fitted, ultimately it was gen insurance (I'd be happy for a 20% discount on the condition they can fit pattern parts if they want) as it was not an old car then.

Adam, do you 'over there' report these incidents to the police anyway ? (not sure if its required by law or not) just thinking a few days later said Toyota driver may say you did it. I bet that's been tried before.

While I standing at the station counter making a report, another fellow came in to say he'd been hit in the rear of his car by a small silver Toyota that didn't stop! I think this helped allay any doubts the Police may have held up to this point.

No chance. They're understaffed, and disinterested in most things.

The investigation would have merited far greater resources if I was a smoking hot blonde female in her '20s. That's just how it is.

bloody hell fella, thats proper nasty!! the only hope is that there is Damage to the other car too and it will get spotted!

annoys the daylights out of me that people think its acceptable to cause a fair bit of damage and simply drive off!
