c4 temperature sensors.

Unread post by daviemck2006 »

Is the temperature sensor for the c4 in the drivers side door mirror by any chance. Ny mirror got knocked off on saturday night by hooligans and although I have managed to bodge it back on so I can use it the wiring in there is goosed and completely disconnected. Out in car today, outside temp very erratic, down as far as -40* and then coming slowly up to 15* Whilst at the low figures the heater is coming on full temp and fan on full speed when set on auto 21* where I always have it. Does this mean that I will need a new mirror with all the electrical gubbins attached? Liable to cost an arm leg and maybe the other leg as well from citroen?

pretty sure it is, if it has the bobble (technical term) on the bottom of it, them yes. If I could find my new Haynes manual, I will have a look & get back for you.

The external temp sensor in the mirror on my C5 went haywire and was replaced under warranty. I believe they just replaced the sensor by splicing in a new one onto the existing wiring, so you may get away with a much cheaper fix :-D

In the majority of Citroen's it is in the passenger side, although on the C4 it might well be in the drivers i'm not sure.

A broken sensor would likely cause the problems you are describing. They do seem rather fragile, I tapped my wing mirror against a fence the other day and mine went the same way.

A new sensor isn't particularly cheap (around £30 for a genuine new one on ebay), but is relatively easy to fit once you have carefully removed the mirror glass. Easiest way is to cut the wires of the old one and solder on the new one as the connection for it (on the C5 at least) is the door area thus would require removing the doorcard as well.

Was a couple of years ago now but they were £13 from the dealer.

Last one I bought for a C5 was over £30.00 but I believe you can get them a little cheaper from one of the factors.

service.citroen shows sensors in both sides.... would need the last 8 digits of the VIN to confirm. lists at £34, same part on both sides. A new mirror (not including the sensor  ) is £175.... #-o

Thanks guys, so one removed from a vts coupe in black which mine is would be a good bet at £100 then. Should be a straightforward swap then all should be ok.
