Yep, that's it Taffy... Rockers are cam followers unless you’re a Yank and then rockers are something else entirely. Sills I think

Just so this thread makes full sense, Taffy posted this on the Emergency FCF when this one was down earlier in the week:
taffy wrote:Got bad news no thou...
Car stopped other nite and would not turn over...cambelt cover looked like it was coming off..
Tried startin again and belt came off The fuel sprocket....was like something seized...got it home and took covers off...cam feels ok as does crank but fuel pump will turn 1 rotation and jam...also went to take off bottom pully put it in gear and The crank still moves....any help would be great...thanks
To which I replied:
CitroJim wrote:Yes, sounds like the pump is kippered. The engine will be OK substantially but you'll find broken rockers. these can be replaced but be sure to take care to remove any needle rollers that may have sopilt fromt he broken rockers with a strong magnet...

Then fit a new pump and all should be good..

Taffy, as for getting the crank pulley off, I'd remove the rockers and shaft so all valves are closed and then engage 5th gear, pull the handbrake on tight and undo the crank bolt with a stout breaker..

If that doesn't do then there's no reason, with all valves firmly closed and no risk of further collision, why you can't use the old starter motor trick to loosen the bolt...

Don't try holding the periphery of the crank pulley as you'll damage it..

I believe there's a couple of different pumps but I don't know how interchangeable they are. Paul (CitroenXM) will know for sure as he's been there...

It does seem that breaking rockers saves the cam and valves...

EDIT: Reading your earlier post I wonder if debris from the tank found its way into the pump and damaged it. I'd be inclined to swap the low pressure (tank) pump and filter assembly after replacing the HP pump to be sure there's no more debris lying in wait to cause mischief...

I would imagine they can Taffy but to be honest if it's died in such a way as to seize it and wreck the engine I'd expect the inside of the pump to look a bit like the Somme..

I'd scrap the old pumps and filter housing/filter without question and replace with known good articles...

You'll often find rockers for the HDI engine on eBay. Last time I looked they were around £8 each or slightly less if you bought a full set. Good luck.

I HATE to say this, but based on what I have read, you need them all. If you only do a part job, and one of the old parts fail you are back to square one (or worse if it causes good bits to fail).

I HATE this bit even more, but as you have to remove them to change the timing belt it makes sense to replace the aux belt (and bits) as well. I have been told that dealerships allow 5 hours to replace the timing belt, 3 hours for the aux belt, but for them both it's about 5.5 hours.

JSA? Been there, done that, DON'T want to be there EVER again!
