The best French hearse since the 504!

Post by bencowell »

From Fleetnewsnet.co.uk
FUNERAL director the Co-operative Group has taken on 18 Citroen C5s as transport for customers on their final journey.
The 2.0 HDi SX estates will be used by its newly-branded funeral business, Co-operative Funeralcare. They are fitted with full-length internal hearse decks and tinted window glazing in the rear compartment and are able to carry up to two removal coffins or stretchers.
Gloria Daly, Co-operative Funeralcare's transport manager, said: 'Prior to specifying these C5 estate cars, we examined a number of other vehicles. However, only the Citroen C5 offered the combination of load space, low cost of operation, comfort and an easily-adjustable load deck height. In service, these cars have proved to be very fuel-efficient and their two-man crews find them ideal for the purpose.'
During their four-year life with Co-operative Funeralcare, the C5 estates will cover up to 140,000 miles.

Now doesn't this have <b>advertising</b> potential!
<i>"People are dying to ride in a C-5"</i> type of thing.
Another point I spotted was they talked about <u>comfort??</u>Thought it was a bit late for that...
<i>Sorry; couldn't resist that one</i>[:D][:D]

I always thought that riding in the back was a little stiff...

I hope my last journey isn't in my C5, although being a hatchback and a tasteful shade of Misty Lilac, it won't be confused for a hearse!

Well, funeral directors seem to be fashionable at the moment - at least if they're in America and fictional (c/o the rather good "Six feet under", as seen on channel 4 and E4). Perhaps Citroen are working on product placement at this very moment.....

Our local funeral director runs a CX hearse. The registration letters are "SAD" , which I believe is the original assigned number, not one transferred. He's just started using a Ford though. I wonder if he will be selling the Cit................

Just looked on the brochure for a C5, the max legnth load in the boot is 1780mm. That means the rear end must be modified to get a 6 foot coffin inside. Either that or employ dwarfs to drive!

AFAIK - such cars are allways special build - basically as an ambulance chassis - by specialist chassis builders.
Some of the more odd examples are the extra long twin (even triple) rear axle DS, CX & XM's from Tissier.
