Zx Axle (wheel bearings)

Unread post by mrbump »

Hi,
I have just changed the axle on my 1993 zx volcane td for one from a 1.9i volcane as the trailing arm bearings were stuffed. The problem is that after fitting it I now realise that the calipers dont fit, as mine was abs equipped and the new axle is not. The caliper bolts seem to be too big for the mounts on the hub. Then I relaised that the whole hub assembly looked different. I had originally thought that these parts were all interchangeable, but it seems more coplex that i first thought. [:I]
Firstly, is there any way to change the caliper (and abs sensor) mounting bracket without first removing the hub and wheel bearing?
Also, if I do have to remove the wheel bearings, do I have to use a proper puller or can I just be a bit rough as I dont need the bearings again?
Cheers[:D]
Jon

The ZX's with ABS and rear discs used different wheel bearings than the Non ABS with discs cars, the ABS type I believe is wider as it has the ABS ring on it.
Unless anyone knows otherwise you're going to have to swap the hubs and wheel bearings for your ABS ones.

OK, so I need to change everything over form my old ABS axle, but can it be done without buying new bearings (hubs)? What are the chances of removing both of the old hub and bearing units and re-installing them without knackering the bearings? I have read elsewhere (here and haynes) that it is almost impossible? Has anyone ever had success with this?
