BSI/rear wiper problem

Hi,recently had a problem regarding a starting problem aftet gearbox change on a 53 plate xsara picasso. Turns out that the mechanic was a prat,had somehow blew the ecu or bsi or both,not too sure to be honest but £600 down the line the cars back on the road with 2 small problems.1 the central locking doesnt work on the key button which lm not worried about,it works if l use the key in the keyhole.2 the problem l need to fix,the rear wiper doesnt work. Ive read a couple of things and its possibly a common fault after having problems with the bsi. Any ideas? Is it going to be another trip to a mechanic or is there some kind of reset sequence I can do at home that doesnt involve a gallon of petrol and a match? Any help would be appreciated,Thanks.
