Went out Friday evening, driving along a country lane I get caught behind a riced up Saxo who's doing 70 on the straight bits but slowing down to about 20 every time theres there slightest deviation in the course of the road. I overtook him safely on straight section and flipped the mirror up as he still had his main beam on.
At the end of the road its a T junction onto the 70MPH dual carriageway - at this junction there is a gap in the central reservation to wait in to join the carriageway towards Liverpool. I waited for a car to go past and pulled out followed by the Saxo who had taken it upon himself to sit approximately 2" from my rear bumper. I was in the outside lane behind a van that was passing a HGV so I couldn't go anywhere. The van then moved over and I floored it to get this idiot off my tail. I sped up to about 75/80 but no more and left him for dead, I could see a set of traffic lights in the distance so I cruised at that speed and as I was about 50 yds away they changed so I braked and had come to a complete stop and put the handbrake on. Next thing I hear a screech, I'm launched forward in my seat, my fist crashes through the instrument panel and theres a huge bang as I land back in my seat. The hazard warning lights had come on automatically, I gathered myself together and got out of the car. Parked in my boot was one bright yellow Saxo. The two lads in it looked non too clever - the drivers airbag had gone off but his head was bleeding and the passenger had a nasty gash on his face. My hand has a few deep scratches on it, I've been to A+E to be checked over and they've bandaged it. I've also got a very sore neck and knee where I braced myself against the bulkhead.
Called the Police and an ambulance who said they'll live. Police contacted the drivers parents and have all his details, he's insured (thank God). From the length of the skidmarks the traffic man reckoned he's locked the wheels at around 55MPH and hit me in the boot at about 35MPH.
I got the RAC to come and tow me away and they took the car to a big repair place near Liverpool. Mechanic reckons its a write off, and if it isn't I'm not driving it again because it looks well bent to me and its rippled the roof and round the tops of the doors.

I posted the above on another forum, didn't want to type it all out again!
Loss adjuster has written it off yesterday. I've taken the tuning box off and a few other bits like the spare alloy wheel and the locking wheel nuts and I've kept the plip off it and taken the tax off which still had 4 full months to run.
I've got to get 3 quotes for the supply of a new car to the same spec and they'll pay out the lower of the 3.
The problem is that the SX line has now been scrapped, replaced by the VTR range. The VTR doesn't have digital climate control, Electric rear windows, fancy sunblinds, extra reading lights, Electronic Stability program, Traction Control, Cruise Control, Hydractive 3+ suspension and a number of other items that my car did.
I put this to them and they agreed that a VTR was not the same spec, so they will pay out for the model above. The three quotes I've had so far are £18,600, £18,700 and the bloke who sold me the last one said he'd quote £18,200 but we'll discuss discounts off that when I've got the money.
The more pressing issue for me is that my back is killing me and I've got pains shooting down my legs, looks like I've slipped a disc. I'm going for an MRI scan now and to see a specialist on Monday to see what can be done as I could do not to be off work right now.

Hell, thats terrible.
Let us hope that your back condition improves very soon.
I wonder whether the Saxo driver will post about this on Revs or Max Power !??!
Just trying to raise a smile at what must be a difficult time.
PS have you got any pictures? [;)]

Sorry to hear of your troubles, BlueBoy. Make sure that you go to the doctors/hospital for every discomfort, as this will support your injury claim. Experience has taught me that the other person's insurance company will try every trick to lessen their payout so be warned. Until the claim is settled don't do anything that may indicate you are fitter than you are. My other half was videoed carrying carrier bags out from a supermarket years after an accident we had. The bags couldn't have been heavy or she wouldn't have been able to carry them! She still has trouble from a damaged hand but this video was held against her when settling her claim. So be careful.
I hope everything turns out well...

Hope you are feeling better, good job he was insured!
I bet you are glad you are driving one of the best cars for whiplash protection according to the Thatcham tests!
Didn't you mention before about wanting an Exclusive to get the bigger alloys for grip with the tuning box?
Make sure you get a quote for the new one with the 6 speed gearbox.
Best wishes
Ben

Sorry to read about your incident blueboy -
Hope these young lowlife guys had their learning [:(!]
Couple of y's ago - one friday evening was on a trip to visit family - in my CX loaded with my own family.
Came out from a slowdown thru a small village - then found myself behind 2 young lads in a VW Golf. At the instant they sighted me in their rear mirror - they slowed down - provoking me to "play".
They slowed down past my annoyance level - to some 25mph (50 allowed on the route).
At the instant I tried to turn out overtaking - they floored the Golf - and it vent off in a cloud of grey smoke. Clearly they where out the road - finding a victim to show off their "race performance" tuned Golf.
My heavier CX loaded with family - did'nt have the slightest chance. Once I've reached a sensible speed again - they slowed down again - and so it went on for 10min's or so - and I started to look for a place to pull over - as my youngest had started crying for fear.
They did'nt even respect that I slowed down even further to give them distance - they were waiting for me to show I'd start taking over - and a long line of drivers were packing up behind me. Clearly an utterly dangerous situation had developed - and I was trembling for fury and fear.
At the next exit I put on my indicators - just to see these lads did too. For some reason they floored the Golf and went down the exit with screaming wheels - and I instantly decided to head on to leave them.
Later we found a rest area and pulled in - together with several of the drivers from behind.
Such people should be punished by hanging down a tree by their balls [}:)][:(][:(!]

Have the aches and pains gone away Blueboy?
Hope you aren't having too many problems with the insurance.
Our next door neighbour hit a van that was crossing red lights that "I didn't see" according to the uninsured driver.
Police were called, the other 3 lads disappeared, false address given, then the other lads being nicked down the road for attempted theft/theft of a motorcycle!
Quite what the van was doing entering a private road to a hotel when the driver didn't have enough money for his bus fare home still remains a mystery!
Best of luck Blueboy.

The cuts on my hand have nearly healed up and my neck is ok but I've slipped a disc in my back and still got nasty shooting pains down my leg. I went to a wedding yesterday but I had to leave straight after the meal as I'd a job to walk. I've been to physio every couple of days which has eased it a bit and confined the pain just to my left leg. I've been for an MRI scan on Friday and I'm going to see a consultant tomorrow to see what he reccomends.
I'm supposed to be the Best Man at a wedding next week about 200 miles away, not looking forward to it at the moment really but I'll have to go as I've been best mates with the lad since we were 4.

sorry to hear about it. Insurance doesn't heal the pain though. I wish you a speedy recovery.

sorry to hear about your accident blueboy, hope you get better soon.
i do agree with anders about "hanging them from trees by their balls" instead of rope, they could use razor wire (barbed wire) to teach them a leason.
in the east hear we also have a problem with so called gary boys racing around, their favorite bit is a place called the "double d's" after a few near miss's the police now park up & wait for them now to catch them in the act.
anyhow, hope that you get your car & your body back to full woking order soon.

Hope you are well soon.
My Xantia was the cause of back trouble.
Leant over the back of the engine looking for a fuel leak.
As I got back straight my back was killing me. Spent the next week bent over (now, now no smutty remarks!). I'd slipped a disc but luckily did not need surgery.
A bit of physio and luckily I work from home so no need to walk to work otherwise I couldn't so I know exactly where Blueboy is coming from.
Best of luck it will get better. Think of it as a reason to get fit.
Damn Citroens might be bad for your health ! Always use garlic before working on one !

Crikey - a lot happened since I logged on last month. It took me a while to find this post so please excuse my questions to your email which are answered here.
Why not go for a secondhand SX or Exclusive with all the features you want and trouser the £10k change?[:I]
