Jet-Wash Roulette

Post by addo »

I've had some fun with a C5 that has been over-enthusiastically "detailed" with a pressure washer.

The centre brake light display expired. The air pump has expired. The front lambda sensor is cactus, quite possibly from water that made it through the air pump before seizure. The cat was sooted up from the failed lambda. Next, I expect the handbrake cables to seize and the rear height corrector to fault.

Ironically, the owner sold a lower mileage Xantia with the idea that this car (newer) would be less problematic.

I think there's the cautionary tale, a younger car is not always the best option.

Occasionally we'd see very neglected / dangerous ones were under three years old ie exempt from MOT, bad tyres, pads down to the metal etc.

Are you sure its not been in a flood or something ? , that kind of thing you're describing would be what I'd expect a short time after it tried out from having a "bath"

Good point; I'll check a few strategic crevices next time.

May be worth draining a bit of transmission oil out to check for water, although that may of been changed. As you say usual 'hidden' crevices' may reveal something.

Other thought is looking up under the trim under the pedals to check for signs of initial corrosion on the pedal tops / mounts themselves maybe. Just trying to think of "out of sight" places that would not normally be 'tidied'

Just remembered your location, not sure on flooding there ? , then again in a river or something is a possibility I guess ( :( )

Hoping I'm completely wrong and it was just a mad jetwashing session though.
Andy.

and maybe if it is just excessive jet washing, you might just find its water in the plug connectors
