Xantia walnut glovebox trim.

Post by lankytim »

Hi,

Has anybody fitted the "walnut" trim to their glovebox lid? How do you do it? I'm hoping I don't have to swap the entire glovebox over!

Thanks,

Tim

It is simplest to swap the lid across.

On a Series 2 car, you need to drill four 8mm holes in the back to access the trim securing screws. The trim is screwed to the lid face, THEN it's frequency welded to the inner skin of the lid. Nice of them to do it that way...

Humm. Thanks for clarifying that. Is there any way of changing the lock over? Also, how is the lid removed?

Once the trim is removed, it's easy to swap over the lock. Catch 22!

Seems the best course of action is to cut open the "donor" glovebox, remove the trim, measure up the screw spacings and carefully drill above the screws in the existing glovebox lid. Either that or just swap the whole lot over and put up with the lock being odd!

Ok, I've fitted this now. The method I used was the prise the donor glovebox lid apart to access the trim screws inside and then remove the lovely walnut trim by unscrewing the now exposed screws. Next I carefully cut my existing trim in two with a sharp knife and prised the parts off the lid, snapping the securing studs off in the process (that was nerve-wracking!). I then cut the corresponding studs off the walnut trim and with a little filing to ensure they matched I glued the new trim onto the old glovebox. Easy!

Oh, and I swapped the lock too!

A clever solution! Good thinking.
