Sending Parcels

Strictly speaking, this isn't specifically to do with Citroens, but as members often need to send 'bits' to one another, the following may be useful.

To send a Xantia radio, which is just a bit too large to be a Royal Mail 'small' parcel, the cheapest my local Post Office (very obliging) could do it for was £8 second class parcel post.

However, I discovered that Collect+ (book and pay on-line 24/7, leave the parcel at a local corner shop) will deliver anything up to 2Kg for £3.99 (the radio packed weighs a bit less than 1.8Kg) anywhere in mainland UK. 2-5Kg for £4.99, 5-10Kg £6.99. If it's more convenient for the recipient to collect the parcel from their nearest 'corner shop' agent, Collect+ will leave it there for collection and will let them know by e-mail when it's ready for collection. The agencies are all early 'til late small shops so parcels can be dropped off or collected whenever the shops are open. Collect+'s website is really well thought out: you just stuff in your own postcode and the map shows you the nearest agencies, you pick one, stuff in the destination postcode and it shows that together with the nearest agencies to that. Payment by PayPal or any Credit/Debit Card (except Amex od course). Simple idea, well organised and implemented - wish I'd thought of it!

collect+ use yodel.

btw , if you are happy to go and get the package , you can send up to 10kg in weight for £3.49 to your local pick up point instead of home delivery!

I used them once for a C5 clutch I bought, the bloody minded shop girl at my end refused it because she said it was too heavy despite the fact that she didn't have to handle it as the delivery guy was going to put it down behind the counter and I was going to pick it up from the same spot.

In the end the driver delivered it right to my door. He was the same guy who regularly delivers to me through parcel2go.co.uk

It wasn't overweight by the way.

I've used parcel2go a few times with no problems.

They are a posting "agent" almost and give you various posting options and prices. Used the Hermes route via them a few times, as it is easier to drop it off at my local co-op after work than having to take a visit to the post office.

Check the parcel/postage restrictions though.

Had to send a tow bar the other day, but only realised just before payment that it was too long. (From memory I think Hermes will only take stuff that's under 110cm, in the end went for one of the other options UPS, which had a maximum length of 125)

has anybody figured out how to send gas cartidges by post in the UK? Maybe someone have used Parcel ABC company services? I heard that this company are really reliable and offers good prices, but never tried their services. And can't find more information about these type of parcel, maybe someone can help me? You haven't said what type of gas it is - some items are prohibited and others require a specialist delivery service - you need to take this up with the courier - they will advise as to what they are able to transport and what they are not. They should also be aware of the applicable laws in the the EU over transporting dangerous substances / materials.

This is a question for your courier really, not the Forum.
