Urgent electric window fail.

Post by Sid_the_Squid »

Hi All
I Hope someone can help, I've a major window crisis on my xantia, the window electric winder mechanism has broken, well specifically the bit which holds the window up or down, its snapped off its guide rail, and the cable has become entangled.
Basically my window is fully open and cannot be closed.

Does anyone have
1) any guidence on how i can wedge the window securly closed until i can source replacements.
2) have a spare electric window up/down guide rail and cable system?

Its really quite urgent as this is my daily drive.

Thanks everyone.

Can take pictures if need be

First, get hold of BA-CAM. He has one available (if he took it off the drivers door of the one he scrapped, as I suggested). I don't know how much he would want for it. If your mechanism has failed (other than the slider clip) you might need a replacement.

If it is just the window clip, this might be what you are after;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-XANTI ... 2578bdd47e" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

BUT it is for the drivers door. Which window has the problem?

As a temporary measure you could cut a short length of wood to act as a wedge/prop until you get the mechanism sorted out.

How bad are the cables? If they are not kinked then you might be able to recover the situation once you have a new clip. I have managed to re-build the mechanism, but as mine had kinked the cables and damaged the spool it didn't last long.

Isn't that Alistair???

RE: Changing the window winder complete, this of course will only be any good if its he DRIVERS window thats broke... As the Exclusive has one touch with anti Pinch ALL round on them, so the LX and SX passenger winders wont be any good for an exclusive.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I've managed to solve keeping the window close with ducktape, it looks really bad, but hopefully only temporary.
It appears the clip is broken, but i think it may have been me responsible for that while I was trying to extract the part which holds the glass. As when I took the door trim panel off the clip was damaged but still went up and down, just the cables were all tangled and the winder had jammed.

I think given the nature of this issue I may end up turning it over to the excellent chaps at B.L Autos, least then I know the job will be done properly not just hacked together by me ;)

Thanks for all the advice guys :)

Ahh, good old Duck tape :-D Where would we be without it? Just the same with cable ties...

To be honest Sid, I don't blame you. It is a rotten job re-threading those cables. It's a bit like extreme knitting...

I have done it, but it is a real pain, and requires patience as the cables keep trying to come off the spool. You don't say which door has the problem. I assumed drivers' door, as this is the one that normally gets the most usage.
