i know these are electronically controlled
to advance and retartd timing
do they do this with voltage or how
ecu takes inputs from 3 sources i think
what would happen if i feed this with 12v
as engine man light is on and its clattering t===to far advanced
unplugging brown connector does not change sound

is this ecu controlled
or can it be wired

Re: 406 as3 pump
I think 12v is too much, I'm not really sure but I suspect its not just a solenoid as to control it accurately it would need a constant adjustment ie a waveform rather than pulses.
The pump link you provided I cannot see the other side of it (no pic of that side) however if it is from a 306TD then it won't be electronic controlled it will be mechanical advance which is no bad thing as you can do away with wiring the ECU into it, just the stop solenoid feed and maybe the advance unit and you're done (may have to plumb the advance capsule in if fitted or remove it) , cannot see if it would need the armour removing from the pic, I suspect not as there appears to be space.

Re: 406 as3 pump
cheers
i think this is same pump

i can see the stop nsolenoid so no armour
what bothers me is the wire at bottom of pump on advance unit
love to know how that works and feed voltage

Re: 406 as3 pump
On the 306 pump its not a linear advance unit, the advance is an on / off device only used for cold running and starting, the advance in the pump while running / accelerating / decelerating is controlled mechanically. I think the advance just pushes it about 2 or 4 degrees not sure.
The 406 pump has completely electronic control of the advance / retard of the pump, there's no mechanical backup which is why they run badly if its got a problem.
