Advisories this time:

Windscreen - yeah well I know about that, it's had a bullet hole in the passenger side since Oct 2009  I will probably get a replacement, as it is the original and is badly chipped and scratched all across it now.
FNS brake disc - picked that one up last year as well, not sure why, brakes work fine!
Exhaust leak - I knew about that, front pipe needs to come off and have some patches welded onto it
NSR suspension supply pipe rusty - knew about that too - might get one laid in in case it lets go like the other side did a couple of weeks ago.
NSF drop link - also mentioned last year. Can't complain, it is the original - need to order up an oil change kit, so might as well get a new link too.
OSF ABS ring cracked - new one, but no symptoms yet. Replaced the other side 18 months ago so not surprised.

No mention this time of the front brake pipes or flexis, or the PAS pipe that have figured in previous MOTS - nor of the (original!) front wishbone bushes, which were first an advisory 80,000 miles ago, and have featured occasionally since :-D [-X

Bought new corner spheres from AEP on the way home - a job for tomorrow, in amongst jobs on Mandrakes V6 and resetting (hopefully) the EML on the C4.

Bullet hole! Do you park in a shady side of town during the day Richard ? Or live a double life ?

My front ABS rings are almost non existant... not cracked, just rusted away to a fraction of their normal thickness and look like they could fall apart at any moment, yet not only did it pass without an advisory the ABS works fine too! Touch wood...

It just goes to show how arbitrary some of the judgement calls made during an MOT are - I got warned about "cracked" front brake flexi's but although they look old I can't see any cracking or signs of damage to them at all, although I will probably do them before the next MOT I have a suspicion that if I take it somewhere else they won't even comment on them...(in fact I will be going somewhere else since falling out with the last crowd over the tyre balancing...)

When I looked back through the last 5 years of MOT test results for mine on-line some advisories made a regular appearance, including "minor exhaust leak" in the centre section of the exhaust (where it broke) which has been warned on and off at MOT's for at least 5 years! It's clear that nothing was ever done about the exhaust leak it just took 5 years to finally break.

No dodginess here - it was only a stone....

Just looking back at the history, this car has only failed one of the 6 MOTs it's had in my near 100k tenure, and that was my fault - fitted a brake light bulb the wrong way round

Cassy passed on the 4th.
Advisories were rear accumulator sphere is wet, probably from Jim lubing the linkages, and top steering column bearing having slight play which they all do.

Great news :) =D>

MIne has failed MOT only once during my ownership (over 10 years) when inner parts of the catalytic converter dissolved into smaller pieces. It has made 400K km (248K miles) with one engine, one gear box (manual), one hydraulic pump (all original seals) and one heater matrix

Made me laugh a lot that Malc. No bribes were passed, honest - I just think he passes it to get rid of me - "You've not still got that thing have you????" 8-)

Cheeky bar-stewards! I'm not 40 yet.... It was a twin filament, and I had it in 180 deg out so it didn't work, and and he side lights did funny things. I was sure I had put it in the right way, but obviously not! On the other hand, maybe that was a senior moment....

It took umbrage at me trying to fit new spheres, and the OSR strut edge has fallen off and it won't seal now. Bugger :(

You could surely get that repaired for less than a new strut? Otherwise you could get an uncorroded one from an Australian car.
