Dads C5, 2002 series one has overnight developed a fault. The blower fan is stuck on one speed...about 3/4 speed. When you turn the ignition on briefly a couple of the speed fan blade indicators in the pooter display light up then they all go out as if there is no blower running but it is! i.e. fan picture is not blacked out at all.
The speed control button has no effect....rest of controls seem fine though not checked all yet.
Any ideas greatfully received. Typically they go wrong when they are to be sold..we have got him a lovely Xantia he put on road just yeaterday!

Re: C5 blower problems
(could be a) common fault Petrolhead..
mind did it 5 miles into its first journey, and it was a hot day and the journey had another 300 miles to go..! - the fan went off, and I couldnt do anything about it.. with ignition some of the blades lit up, but then nada
will most liekly be the fan controller thing, screws into fan unit / drivers side foot well.. think it is held by two small torx..
grab another from a scrappy and you are good to go

ah, ok, is that the thing like a heatsink with wires to it? I have played with those on a peugeot 406 before. Probably the same and I slung one out recently from a heap in the shed

Re: C5 blower problems
yep thats him
goodess knows why psa cars often seem to blow their blowers!
ps I may go to wreckers on Saturday, there are a handful of C5's in there.. if you need me to grab the part let me know.. I will be hunting for seatbelts that retract in less then a day!
ps one of the S1 C5's in there has cream electric leather if anyone wants it.. the Drivers Seat will need a clean.

Re: C5 blower problems
If its the same as the XM/Xantia/406 you can replace the transistors if you are handy with a soldering iron.

Re: C5 blower problems
yes, I reckon it must be fixable....there are a few companies offering send in for a fix abnd return! Thanks for the offer of grabbing me one...if your scrappie is well priced I may take you up on that.
Currently I am awaiting response from some breakers on a blower module and a drivers door leccy mirror complete (Dad managed to have his wrecked)
As said, I'm going to sell it for him....back onto Xantia and he is happier
