Megane scenic 1.5 d 2005
Hi Guys
I have just purchased a 2005 (54) plate Megane scenic 1.5 d 2005 with 80'000 on clock and have a couple of questions if some of you kind folk would mind helping me with,
first off - the clutch biting point is near the top of the pedal it dosent seem to be slipping and the pedal is light enough, should i be concerned or is this normal ?
second - i was surprised to find this 2005 car still had a tape deck in it so i have ordered (off ebay) the cd equivalent model, will it just swap or do i need to start messing with codes that the new one probably wont have and i haven't seen any in the book for the old one ?
Third - The dash has already been replaced is it normal for the mileage to be set back to 0 when changed? (have MOT's to prove correct mileage so not a stunt)
Is there any thing i should keep my eyes out for on this car, (has a normal handbrake)
don't scare me just go gentle lol
any help is great full

Re: Megane scenic 1.5 d 2005
It was on at £1650 but settled at £1400
i think i have a good buy although i am gonna spend a couple of hundred on the paint work as the arches have started to bubble and one of the sills is the same.
what do you think ?

Im not sure that it is a great sign that the Renault forum is positively dead in comparison to the Citroen forum, i guess that is a good thing

Hi Craig -
1 - wouldn't be too worried about the clutch at all.
2 - No, you will need the code of the new CD player.
3 - Yes, when the dash is changed the mileage starts at ZERO again.

Re: Megane scenic 1.5 d 2005
The codes are linked to the stereos themselves, so you'll need the code for the new one you've bought.
The dash failure is a massive issue with the Scénic, and to be honest, there are very few out there now that read their correct mileage. What does make it easier to sell is the documentation from Renault recording the cars history up to the speedo change and verifying that everything is legitimate.
Other Scénic issues include rubbish electric windows, bad fan resistors (fan may only work on speed 3, or up to speed 3) and key card mischief - which is usually easy and inexpensive to put right.
Enjoy!
Luke

Re: Megane scenic 1.5 d 2005
Thanks yeah I got the code from a free site http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthre ... adio-Codes" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which was helpfull . Yeah I have the proof of mileage from the change so that's good at least.
What are the problems with the keycard and how are they easy fixed, is it a unit change?

Re: Megane scenic 1.5 d 2005
Normally keycard issues involve getting the card rebuilt aftermarket (cheap) or getting a s/h reader unit from another car....not a great issue.
It is quiet because there just aren't as many Renault enthusiasts on FCF who spanner cars. Certainly not that Renault's are more trouble free.
It is rather a nice package that Scenic 1.5. Roomy and economical. Would do me.

Re: Megane scenic 1.5 d 2005
Yeah i like to get to know my cars so if i have a problem i am not strung up by a garage or worse still a dealer who wants to rip my eyes out and still not fix the fault, no thanks i have found that the best advise normally comes from a like minded enthusiast who has had the same issue. and so i can pay it forward and return the advise to the next person etc.
yeah the 1.5 is a good little engine from what i have used it this last couple of weeks, big car in comparison and im still getting 52mpg and that's on the dreaded m62 that is rarely accident free, i was getting apx 38 mpg from the C5 i had and so have gone from spending £200pm to apx £150-£160 so the way i see it if i keep the car 2 yrs it has almost paid for its self just in fuel (provided there are no major issues) just had a quote for touching up the arches, sills and a couple of little scratches @£300 so think i will get this done as well seen as how i knocked the seller down £250 on the purchase price it will make a nice tidy car for the money.
so far i would recommend one to any one looking for a economical car but wants some thing bigger than a shoe box.

Re: Megane scenic 1.5 d 2005
That's the strange thing, Renaults use some quality kit, Bosch for example but seem bedevilled by reliability problems. In the last couple of weeks the alternator and air conditioning failed on mine. The alternator cost only £21 inc delivery but I had to strip the front end down to fit it. This week the air con switch wiring/connector went faulty so the front had to come off again. Mercedes A Classes have a bad reputation but mine was far more reliable than my Scenics. Shop around for the pump repair.

Re: Megane scenic 1.5 d 2005
yeah i got a pump off ebay £180 fitted with a timing belt and kit for £125 just got a full set of injectors for £80 of ebay and will self fit.
so as long as it resolves with the injectors then total cost of £400 is better than the £1400 quoted but still 400 more than i wanted to spend

Re: Megane scenic 1.5 d 2005
I can't say about the 1.5 but the 1.9 needs it's injectors coding to the ECU. If they aren't the car is put into limp mode that is so severe that it'll barely climb a small hill. Should be easy enough to find someone local with suitable kit for such a job, good aftermarket equipment can do it and it takes just minutes. Reflashing the ECU or big voltage drop/spike is enough for the injector codes to be lost.
