If the haters come out, take it with a grain of salt. You'd be running 205/35/19 to keep the speedo right?

I'm a hater  you will defeat the object of having hydropnumatic suspension - if you have it, you might as well have an Audi or BMW.

Not for me, been there with the harsh ride but may look good.

Post pics if you end up getting some fitted.

I personally think 19's would be a tad too big but as said, do it & post pics or at least get a PotatoChop done before you buy 'em

If it were me I think max would be 17". I was thinking of changing my wheels last year but was not sure I could fit my pressure sensors to new wheels and still work.

Don't know about your model, but the 19" alloys certainly look the dogs on my 2008 model. To be honest, I previously had a Rover 75 with tall tyres on, and I find there's not a lot of difference comfortwise.
Not that I'm questioning anyone, but I wonder if all the criticism of the 19" rims and lower profiles are from experience or hearsay.

i'm not criticising at all and also have never put larger wheels on any car that wasn't designed with said sizes available.
However i know from other forums people do have problems with noise, tramlining etc when jumping 2 or more sizes upwards.
Most modern cars are designed to run certain sizes and tyre profile as an integral feature, as you say, the C5 III does look good on 19's but this was an option anyway, 17's the smallest size?, so proportionally they fill the arches aesthetically.
As far as i recall the C5 I or II probably only had 16's as largest size? so 19's with Rubber bands will in my eyes look like a 'Hot Wheels' car let alone with stiffer sidewalls ride a bit harsher even with Hydro suspension.

Know what you're saying, but the problem with other forums and opinions, it's a bit like Chinese whispers sometimes. Somebody chucks big rims on, with cheap and nasty boots, then complains about noise and bumps. I think it's not as bad as people make out and can be a nice compromise between looks and comfort. Admittedly, I wouldn't know how the Mark 1 and Mark 1 facelift would look, as my mark 1 had 16" if memory serves. I do agree about the cars not designed for bigger rims though, nothing uglier than little cars pretending to be big ones!
I've said the new C5 looks a treat with the big bold 19" rims, but I sure as hell am not looking forward to replacing the tyres. If it had come with 17" rims, I wouldn't have dreamed of changing them.

If you look at the amount of rubber between you and the road with low profile tyres it stands to reason that they are not going to absorb bumps like the proper tyres. I haven't personally tried using bigger wheels but my son has driven a lot of cars with low profiles and says the ride is rubbish. If you look at road tests of modern cars with large wheels/skinny tyres you will find that many people complain about the ride, including the testers. If you want something with a hard ride buy and Audi or BMW its your choice but I certainly wouldn't ruin the ride of a car that is designed for comfort for the sake of appearance.

Moving up a wheel size reduced performance, degrades handling and ride quality, means you have to purchase more expensive tyres and hikes your insurance up. Personally, I'm looking into moving down from 16" wheel to a 15" wheel on my Clio. It will save me nearly 30Kg of unsprung weight which apparently results in a significant handling improvement. The 16" wheels were put on the car by the marketing department, not engineering.

Actually, the 19" wheels were put on my car by the original purchaser. 19" rims on the C5 X7 were an option when ordering a new car, so nothing to do with Citroen at all. It was entirely up to the customer which wheels size he (or she) selected from the available options.
