My Xantia had a "really annoying rattle" when I got it.
I turned out to be the actual hatchback itself rattling in the catch.
A couple of minutes with a 10mm spanner adjusting the rubber stop things that the hatch rests on sorted it for me.
Might be worth a look.

Hi
If its coming from the boot area ,check under the car at the heat shield above the silencer the clips normally give way which causes it to rattle on the silencer

Ok so i fainally got the spare time to take the boot apart and found afunny round piece of metal floating around to the left of the hatch.

very pleased with myself i shut the boot and finally realised what the noise was.... the rear spoiler is loose and the metal i found appears to be some kind of fitting for this. I cant see the fittings for the spoiler so wondered if there was any way of fixing this before i rip the spoiler off GRRRR!

thanks
