Xantia MK2 – Taking apart the Hydraulic pump

Post by lancia58 »

The pump leaks and the 0-ring number #3 in the diagram should be replaced. For that the three #70 bolts have to be undo. Is this an easy job if not is there any thread describing step by step how to do it ? Any diagram/photo describing the inner structure ? Any pre – cautions ? Any springs to fit back

Thanks

It's actually quitye straightforward Zohar but it's not easy due to the end dome being very tight on the main casting..

Basically, you need to find a method of clamping the pump very firmly in a vice to support it but with the end dome clear.

Then remove the three through-bolts but ensure that the from triangular piece just in front of the pulley cannot become separated from the main body.

Then carefully lever off the end dome using a combination of taps from a soft hammer and very cautious leverage. It will be a very tight fit on the main casting as it fits over a short spigot.

When off, simply replace the O ring and reassemble. To pull the end dome down on the main casting just insert the three through-bolts and tighten them gently and evenly until the end dome is home. Finally tighten up the three through-bolts.

This job cannot be done in-situ and the pump must be removed from the car. There is no risk of any flying springs...
