hydrolic pump xantia

Post by taffy »

Hi guys....
This has been bugging me for a while now...I can hear and feel The hydrolic pump running cutting in and out every 2 seconds...strainin The engine...I get a click every 25-30 secs off The accumulater so that's ok...I'm thinking its either pump knackered or internal pressure loss in system...my sudpension is also lazy and I haven cleaned The lhm yet however its pretty much new as had a leak on front return rubber pipe on front hydro sphere and its had new oil....all sphere were new as off 7000 miles ago...4 months....any ideas would be grately apprraciated

I am confused, the regulator tick is what controls the pump working, so is the regulator cutting in every 2 seconds or 20?

If the car is hydroactive, an electrovalve with internal leakage can have quite an effect (usually only in soft mode).

i dont have much knowledge of the hyper active system,

taffy says "I get a click every 25-30 secs off The accumulater"

the regulator/accumulator is what switch's the pump pressure in and out,
so if the pump is ticking/chattering but the regulator is only ticking every 25-30 secs, i would say the pump is sucking air from somewhere

The pump should only 'chatter' when actively pressurising. generally you hear a regulator tick followed by a short burst of chatter as the pump works to rebuild pressure and then it goes silent again until the next tick.. That's the normal..

So, say 30s between ticks and say two or so seconds of chatter after the tick.

What it sounds like is yours has a massive internal leak or a flat accumulator and what you're hearing is a pump struggling to achieve pressure and eventually it does and then you hear a tick but then pressure is lost so quickly that it has to start working hard all over again so it's pumping almost constantly but the tick interval sounds normal.. I've known pumps to work continuously with no tick at all as full regulator cut-out pressure can never be achieved.

Even though there's an apparent long tock interval I'd still point the finger of suspicion at the accumulator sphere in the first instance...

If not that then electrovalve leaks are a possibility. Normally they only leak in soft mode and are OK in hard so as a test force hard mode by pulling the hydractive ECU fuse and see if it changes...

Yes, it does as the regulator can produce two ticks. One on regulator cut-in and one on regulator cut-out. They are usually of very different volumes and often one is inaudible unless you listen very carefully. I think the cut-out tick is the loudest and is the one you normally hear.

So what regulates The pressure at The accumulater block...spring and ball bearing or electro valves?

i'd say its your accumulator sphere then

what does it do if you press the brake pedal several times, does it start ticking more again
