about power steering sensor

Unread post by MAKO »

Hi, all

I might be an outsider here.
Actually, an owner of Citroen Xm 2000 3.0l 24v DOHC (ES9J4).

a few days ago, my power steering pressure sensor has gone, suddenly blew apart right in two, losing massive LHM. a very dangerous way of losing power steering assist.

It was only a month since I last replaced it with a aftermarket sensor because of minor leak, a common case. so I thought it's due to its unlucky quality.

http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... =3&t=43737" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

but today, my local authorized citroen dealer said they had seen two same cases in Citroen C6 with genuine steering sensors. it seems many Peugeot cars also have this sensor (PSA part number 401509 or 96778995 80) with them, like 206 306 406 407.

now, I would like to ask you a question.

Have you ever experienced this kind of failure with your Peugeot cars ?

thank you for any information in advance.

I've never seen one explode, come to think of it I've only seen one or two have a slight weepage from the sensor itself.

You have to bear in mind Peugeot does not use LHM fluid, most have conventional ATF fluid for PAS, at least they did when I was there. I started to wonder if the sensor pipework would be under more pressure with a suspension based system although that does not seem likely as its the PAS area not the suspension.

Hi, Spider.

thank you for information

you are right, reminds me that Citroen uses different hoses for each oils such as LHS, LHM, LDS.

the seller might have put "Z" to suggested it IS NOT for LHM cars, as opposed to genuine 401509, although he didn't mention it to hear my report, only a remote possibility of bad quality. but I can never tell.

I have screwed in a new genuine sensor this morning.

it's 3months and 1600 miles since genuine sensor installed.

my xm is working as well as can be !

I am kicking myself for using a wrong sensor for LHM cars,

Our family has a saying, "Intelligent people never make the same mistake twice. They find a new way to mess it up!".

Somebody else that I knew said that the way he learnt not to make expensive mistakes was to use his own money. If you know a mistake will hit your pocket, you make sure not to make one.
