C5 2.O 90 BHP Won't Start

Post by djjtl »

I tried to start my c5 this afternoon and the starter motor is turning over but nothing else is happening. On my dash the red light next to the Temperature gauge and the STOP light are illuminated and also the audible warning is sounding.I have had this happen for a couple of weeks and once the engine is running for a couple of minutes the warning light turn off but today it's given up completely. Any pointers would be gratefully appreciated

This might be a low coolant warning. I had this on my previous Xantia, and when I checked the expansion chamber it was nearly empty.

I have checked the coolant level and it's fine also the fuel has no air in it as I checked that as well

BSI Reset was performed and the only change was the audible warning isn't happening but the temperature light and stop light are still illuminated and the engine still won't start

The temperature light is a red herring - it's lit at start up by low oil pressure. Re synching the keys has nothing to do with either, as the immobiliser is passive. Does the key signal go out on the dash a second or so after switch on? Normally if the immob is not disengaged, then it beeps when cranking. Is it Siemens or Bosch injection (check for a primer under the bonnet) - if it doesn't have one, then it's Bosch and the in-tank pump (a known weakness) must run at switch on (listen for the hum).

Stupid question - it has got some diesel in it, and no chance it's been filled with unleadead?

it could be the low pressure pump in the tank, sometimes giving the fuel tank a thump with your hand helps, if it starts after its been thumped then the low pressure pump needs replacing along with the fuel filter, i had the same problem on my 406 on new years eve, lee

I am going to try again in the morning as I've been in work all day.As i said previously I done a BSI reset hence resyncing the key and I know there is no issues with the immobilizer as the key on the dash turns off when trying to turn over.As for oil and fuel issues there is half a tank of diesel and the filters where only changed last month.Lee I will give your suggestion a try in the morning

I finally got the car started this afternoon after a lot of messing around

I checked all the leads and contacts and give them all a clean and it fired up straight away.I have just ordered a lexia and hopefully I can get the car running correctly and get rid a few of the niggles it has whilst running

Well after taking the car out for a run last sunday I parked it up and the next morning it wouldn't start.I have tried on a daily basis to start it but it just won't start at all.I had to remove the battery as I had drained it trying to start it so I recharged the battery and connected it and now the car is displaying eco mod on the multifunction display. I have run it on the lexia and I have got a p0500 error code.
