Bulb identification

Post by MonkeyMark »

I'm wanting to upgrade some of the interior lights to led ones as they seem much better but I'm not sure which I need to get.
Some of the bulbs don't seem to have any markings so I'm not sure what code they are.

Its for a C8 (03) and I intend to do most if not all the internal lights.

Is there any lists that say what codes each bulb would be?
And can anyone recommend any they have found to be good?

Be wary of LEDs for the rear number plate illumination.

I recently followed a Skoda Octavia taxi with LEDs for the number plate and the light was very blue/white, washed out the number plate and were visible to anyone following - illegal to display while lights at the rear other than reversing lights.
I think part of the problem was that the bulbs were too big and protruded from the holder.

i changed the 3 interior bulbs in my old C5's unit thinking they would be brighter.
Big mistake....the 2 side reading lamps were awful, nowhere near enough to read with, centre one not too bad but with hindsight not worth the money to do.
maybe i needed brighter LED's ? who knows, but certainly not a 'mod' i'd do again given the price of 'em.
luckily i can use them on dash of the Acadiane to save keep removing dash to get to them!

All nine interior lights in the roof of our '807 are OK so I've never had to change any.

I am intrigued, Are you wanting to change bulbs for reliability, energy consumption or better light?

Mainly better light.

Fiddling with child seats in the currently poor light is a right pain.
Because it have two to replace anyway (boot and glovebox) I thought I'd give them a go. If they seem noticably better, I'll swap out the rest.

Got and put in the led's today.
Much cleaner, crisper light, so I'm very pleased with this cheap and easy upgrade.

Just need to get a lexia and find out how to switch on the door lights now :-D

Not that this is any help, but a couple of years ago we had a Vec estate... I did a full sweep of the interior lights and courtesy lights as we lived out in the sticks and with 2 small kids to get in a nd out the more light available the better! Anyway I changed everything, even all the dash and clock lights etc for pure whites... looked FANTASTIC for about 6 months, then they started to die... no way was i pulling that clock set out again!!!

Always buy the best you can afford when it comes to these little blighters....
