I've just noticed the power steering rack gaitor needs changing on the passanger side.
Can the gaitors be put on with out having to take hole parts of and avoid doing the tracking?
Genuine gaitors or any other good long last brand out there any good any views?
I know in the past other make gaitors dont seem to last depending on brand and models etc.
306 hdi
thanks

Hi Pete,
i would go for a genuine gaitor or one from GSF as you say the aftermarket ones are very hit and miss and you dont want to do the job twice.
you will need to take off the track rod end but mesure how much tread is showing and just put it back to that and you should be fine.

cant remember if the 306 is the same asthe likes of XANT'S and BX's,
if it is you dont want to buy a genuine gaitor as it will be thermo plastic, this type do not stretch at all,
and the only way to fit an OE one is to stip the rack right down,
it is best to get an after mear kat one as they are rubber and do stretch
doing it in situe it needs to stretch over the power steering ram spigot

Grease and a large spoon is what I used for a 'bailcast' one. Tape up the spigot or fit a piece of tight fitting hose to it to stop it damaging the inside of the gaiter.
