unblock diesel filter warning C5 2.2

Post by waynedance »

I am loosing power under load the car wants to go but holds back.

The car went through a flood and has sat for 6 weeks with water in the exhaust, new engine fitted and was getting fault code saying particular filter clogged. Removed the filter and used compressed air to clean out was alot of rust coloured dust removed now clogged fault has gone but car still holds back under heavy load. Tried to do a fored regeneration with Launch diagnostic where it revs the engine for so long and lots of smoke comes out but at the end the Launch says regeneration not done.

Only fault that comes up is unblock diesel filter do you think jet washing the particular filter would help or be a waste of time. Seemed to be letting compressed air through ok last time it was removed. Would this fault cause the car to have no power and hold back what are the pipes and sensors on the filter could they be at fault?

Thank you.

My advice would be to read the dpf pressure readings, they should be zero at idle, rising to about 60 max when revved.
If the sensor is faulty, they often read 117 mb with the engine switched off. It may have got water in it as you suggested

Is this not a warning for the fuel filter rather than the particulate filter? Symptoms and warning suggest to me that it is.

If so. Simple. Change the fuel filter. They're about a tenner from Halfords and it's 5 min of a job.

Would a faulty sensor or blocked filter cause my problems? car revs fine at standstill but at load driving hard it just holds back but you can feel turbo kicking in.

Faulty sensor can put it into limp home, as it will think the filter is blocked solid.also when driving,it is often different to just revving the car.

Got hooked up to Launch and particle filter inlet - out let pressure difference says 5.88 on tick over and rises to 17.65 at 3500 revs.
Does this sugest fault sensor or this noal readings?

My very good local Indy, PTS Developments have a little piece about this on their website, it's on this page, about halfway down..

http://www.ptsdevelopments.com/diagnost ... efinitions" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

About 1/2 way down the page..

""unblock diesel filter"

What it means: A fault that suggests a blocked diesel fuel filter but actually relates to the Diesel particulate filter (DPF or FAP System) in the exhaust getting blocked. This can sometimes be rectified by a regeneration or by using on a long journey at motorway speeds. In some case this filter will need to be replaced if it cannot be recovered. This can cause the car to lose power or go into ‘limp home’ mode.

Recommended Action: Try a fast motorway run of 15 miles to help clear the filter. Avoid short journeys."

Filter cleaned and Launch diagnostic now will carry out a regeneration.

Car is better but still not right power comes on but then holds back and sort of surges power on power off, any more thoughts.

Want to keep things standard, can not think what else to try.

Swirl flap working, turbo kicking in (maybe not staying on!!), regen done on filter, all air pipes seem to be in correct location, injectors swapped. What else could it be? maybe need to do 50 miles of motorway driving.

I want my 2.2 power back................................ :(

Ok just been for a run after leaving battery disconnected for an hour, still the same. At speed if you dip the clutch the engine will rev to red line no problem but still no power and surges when under heavy acceleration.
