could we save the xantia in years to come

Just been thinking. The xantia will soon be the new bx. But parts are still around and so are many scrap cars. When the bx was still around. There was no internet. I think the xantia xm bx are the last citroens. I dont like the new citroens. Plus new cars are soo complex. Theres bound to be things going wrong. The only c5 i like is the brand new one and c6.
But when you look at theses new cars they look all the same.
The xm is too dear the bx are thin on the ground.
Heres another to think. If the bx was around when the internet was in full swing. Do you think they be more on the road?
I hate the look of new cars. They look like bubbles on wheels. 1980s 1990s cars look solid.
What im trying to say is. If this was 2003. The bx will be on ebay autotrader. At cheap prices.The xantia would be the old c5. And the old c5 will be the new c5. I look at cars like generations

New cars look like bubbles on wheels for a reason. They're safe and strong. Have you seen the NCAP results for a Xantia and the crash test reports? Solid they most surely are not.

Have you ever crashed one? I've crashed one and damaged it so badly the mechanic I took it too said he'd never seen that sort of damage in a lowish speed impact before - I ripped the steering rack clean off it's mounts and bent the car like a banana, though to look at it you'd just think I'd ripped both bumpers off. My missus crashed my Activa.

Xantias are not solid. C5s are, but Xantias are most certainly not.

Not the right thread for a encap test argument I think Xantias will be saved , but in limited numbers.
Its already hard to find a good one.
Xantias are extremely solid, that is the problem if you think about crashing one, recent improvements in design mean that all modern cars have separate front subframes so that all the plastic front just explodes and absorbs the impact like a cushion, when the car is solid, the impact has to be absorbed by everything including the driver.

Compare the structural deformity in front of the driver from that to the test of the C5.

While I wouldn't like to be in a Xantia during a crash, I really wouldn't like to be in a C5 not in a crash, although I suppose the view is slightly better inside than out.

Link corrected. I'd still now prefer a C5 over a Xantia, a much more complete car. Of course, we're all different! It'd be a particularly boring world if we weren't.

I agree totally. The problem I'm going to be eventually faced with (I hope) is when our present S1 Xantia is no longer a viable proposition, is; will I be able to find a very late S2 HDi in a good enough state to make all the electronic aggro worth while?

A Xantia that can't be used as daily transport is of no use to us and there's no real alternative in terms of comfort that I can maintain myself (and thus afford). Apart from fuel, the Xantia costs us less than £1,500 a year because I do ALL the maintenance and repairs.

Younger cars have ever more complex (and potentially troublesome) electronics. It's not the ECUs that are unreliable, it's the poor quality connectors, wiring and (to a lesser extent) sensors and actuators that cause so much expensive grief once modern cars get beyond about 5 years old.

Well - real life, I was a traffic cop for many years. seen quite a few crashed Xantias... and they crash very very well indeed, in real life. Drivers and passengers walk away - the car doesn't matter.

NCAP has some 'interesting' weightings...

I'm quite hapy to have the Xantia on my fleet, where it cohabits with a Discovery, V70 and Audi S4 - none of which are exactly fglimsy, and I'm equally happy in thje Xantia!

The problem is that you will bust your guts trying to get a Xantia that is up to scratch. If you get one that isn't, then you will be spannering it constantly to make good. Meanwhile the market is awash with C5's with cheap prices and lots of good buys with massive life in them, less rust, and tons in the scrappies.

Saving a Xantia. Would you save a Vectra?

See any similarities? Now the V6 and Activa Xantias are what separate the breed IMO. That is a different story. These should be saved.

Good point, we've seen the real life results of a 50mph smash and there was hardly any damage compared to that video.
