Hi had a real bad day trying to sort out wife's 2001 Picasso any way got everything sorted except airbag light is on, after spending hours working out how the Lexia worked. (turned out I was putting in wrong RPO No) only to find there is no reference to the air bag it said "airbag dialog No". so how do I fault find why the light is on. only fault was on BSI and said unable to communicate with air con ECU many thanks for any help
ps checked leads under seats could see nothing loose but how do they come apart baffled me ...lol
and disconnected battery to reseat Bsi
Well, the first question would have to be "What car has the problem?". However, I would guess that the airbag ECU is not replying to the Lexia, suggesting either a failed ECU or a wiring issue.

Now somebody with a lot more knowledge should be able to help you.
Just to give you an idea of the complexity, my Xantia, Gracie has (at least) 4 ECUs to manage the airbags. There is the main ECU, just under the trinkets tray. Then there are the 3 impact ECUs, one (maybe more) up at the front, and one per central door pillar. The NS side airbag ECU is not responding on Gracie, causing the side airbag light to stay on.
Just a query on the original post. You mention air con ECU. Is that a different problem or a typo?

I can only really speak from working on Xantias. Usually the main problem is the connectors under the front seats, even if they appear to be plugged in and well, contact can be poor. The next most common thing to go is the swirly whirly connector which is behind the steering wheel in the cowling. Then the rest of the air bags.
Interesting to hear about the dialogue issue, sounds like it could be part of the problem. On the other hand you may have two issues, one which is bringing on the light, and another which is causing lack of dialogue to the Lexia program, unlikely but something to consider.
I may have got confused as to the fault (by mis-reading the air con ECU as air bag ECU. I should be more careful).
The fact that the only error is the air con ECU narrows down the airbag fault to either wiring or the airbags themselves. Does the Picasso have side airbags, and (if so) is there a seperate status light for them?

side airbags not as far as i'm aware. do you know where airbag ecu is ? must have one as available on Ebay so looks like wiring fault but were who knows
The side airbags are in the seats (on the outside). The seats normally have a logo on the outside to indicate that they have airbags. As (in your starting post) you mention seat wiring, this would strongly suggest you have side airbags.
It is normal for the main ECU to be somewhere near the center of the car (on the Xantia, above and in front of the gear lever) to protect it in an accident for long enough to do its job. I would guess (but it is a guess) that it would be in a similar location on the Picasso. Somebody with access to the Citroen Service site would be able to get an accurate location for you.
As your Lexia session did NOT report a fault with the airbag ECU, we can rule that out. When CitroJim ran a Lexia session on Gracie he found that the NS airbag ECU wasn't responding, and this was clearly shown on the screen.

lol ... no I think your still confusing yourself I think you were possibly right first time airbag ecu at fault because we now know there is one and sounds like it might be in area were radio is and I have had this out recently wondering now if i've knocked connections on it. Also why is lexia not communicating with airbag ecu which would be case if its disconnected or knackered
Sorry, I meant that we could consider the airbag ECU was a possible fault, not that it worked.

Picasso 2001 2.0 HDI
1. Can someone tell me where the airbag ECU Hides (still cant find it)
2. Does the Lexia 3 communicate with it and get fault codes
3. How do you separate the side airbag connection under the seats
Many thanks for any help
