Xantia - Pressure regulator does not tick

Hi

What can be the cause for a pressure regulator that does not tick ? When the engine runs and I sit at the truck the height corrector works OK. When I turn off the engine and sit in the trunk it will not rise ( it does when the engine runs ). Is that a sign for a flat accumulator ? I know that when the accumulator is flat the pressure regulator ticks very frequent.

Mine does that too and I replaced all 6 sphere on my Xantia TD estate last March with ones from Pleaides with no difference apart from the regulator clicking less frequently. That included front & rear accumulator spheres.

Also oiled & greased every part of the rear HC linkage system. Front end bounces as normal and when engine off back end sags and has virtually no movement and doesn't rise much when I plonk my weight on the tow bar.

With engine running it lifts up and adjusts quite quickly to rear load.

Wear in the height regulator valves can cause rapid sinking and cause the pump to run a lot. Its always a good idea to replace the spheres if they have had a lot of use or are old.

If it's the same sort of pressure reg as on GSA / BX / DS then the usual problem, if it's rising OK is that there's some crud under the non-return ball seating or the ball itself is damaged.

It's accessible by removing the accumulator sphere and removing the flat steel plate heldon by a screw; examine the ball and if it looks OK, give it a hefty tap with a brass drift to seat it.

A flat acc sphere will cause the regulator to cut in and out incessantly.
