Heater problem 806

Post by PeterHunter »

Hi all, this is my first post so please feel free to reply!

I have recently acquired an 806 2.0 HDi quicksilver (51) reg. with digital climate control. The heater fan has stopped working altogether. The lights for the controls (auto, Eco, direction of air flow, fan speed etc.), all light up, but the temperature readout doesn't light up, although with a close look I can see what it says, and it adjusts with the up-down arrows. No air comes out as the fan doesn't work. Also, the trip/mileage readout and ambient temperature etc., read outs don't light up.
I have checked the fuses behind the glove box and in the box under the bonnet, but they seem ok. A friend suggested a relay but not sure what he means.
A mechanic friend had a look and said it could be the resister in the fan motor, but doesn't know how to check or replace it.
Does anyone on here have any ideas as to the fault/solution please.
Thankfully I can still drive the car ok, but it's blooming cold in this weather!!
Many thanks. Peter

hi and welcome Peter

the first thing i would do is drop the fan unit out and check the plug connector terminals,

my friends 05 307 had a similar fault were the fan blower stopped working, and after cleaning and tightening the connectors/pins it worked fine,
at least for around 6 months till it failed again,

now we have soldered wires to each of the pins of the speed control module, which is mounted on the fan mount base, then fitted a heavy duty connector instead of the factory plug connector,

the back ground lighting might just be bulbs failing,
Regards, malcolm.

Thanks citronut, I'll give that a try. It'll be great if that's all it is. I'll let you know how it goes.

Hi again. Finally got time to check out the heater. All connectors and pins seem ok, no signs of any corrosion. I checked out the relay as well, visually it looks ok, good tight fitting on all electrics. I put a meter on the main plug putting power to the motor. The thick red lead reads just under 14v the thin lead reads about 4.6v.
Do you think it's the motor? If so, are they all the same or is the one with climate control different? I don't mind buying a new motor for it as long as I get the right one.
Thanks again. Peter

have you tested the motor directly across a 12v battery,
if you send me the last 8 digits of your chassis/VIN No. i will firstly check what system your car has, and secondly get you part No.'s for fan motor and speed control module

aaah now theres a thing, your wagon has two " heater air pullers " below is part No.'s for both

6441 E2
HEATER AIR PULLER
RIGHT
4 VOIES

6441 E3
HEATER AIR PULLER
LEFT
4 VOIES

here is part No. for the speed control module

6441 F7
HEATER MOTOR CONTROL MODULE
4 VOIES

and here is price and part No.'s for all

Reference Description Quantity Price - VAT Price + VAT Total + VAT Selection
00006441E2 HEATER AIR PULLER 207.58 GBP 249.10 GBP 249.10 GBP

00006441E3 HEATER AIR PULLER 206.55 GBP 247.86 GBP 247.86 GBP

00006441F7 HEATER MOTOR CONTROL MODULE 129.13 GBP 154.96 GBP 154.96 GBP

it doesn't lust the motor/blower without the module

if you need any of these you can either googly the part No.'s or aim them at your local motor factors like maybe GSF

ps.

if its the speed control modile and it has the dalington transistors as the XANT has, Farnels sell these at about 3 quid each,
Sir Jim says if/when ordering them to ask for batched pairs, i cant remember the part No. off hand but im sure Jim will add it in due course

Wow! What a predicament. Trust me to pick one with 2 motors/air pullers. Do you think it's likely that both air pullers will go at the same time? Is it more likely to be the control module? Is it difficult to get the control module out so as to work on it? I'd appreciate any advice/info as I don't have a service manual (Haynes don't make them for the 806).
Thanks for all the time and effort so far.

It may not be the motor, but the transistors that control the speed of said motor. It is a known issue on Xantias, and there are work-arounds that solve the problem. If you look on page 3 of the following link, there are photos and details to explain the problem and how to fix it;

http://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/v ... rs#p340089" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

BUT this is for the Xantia. I don't know if your 806 has the same control design.

the speed control module is attached to the blower base, remove the motor with the impeller, then unscrew the board from the plastic base,

Hi all,
Only just found time to work on car. I took a chance and got a fan motor from a breakers off the interweb. I fitted it today (passenger side) and it has done the job, yippee.
You were right about the lights on the dash being the bulbs. I stripped the dash out and messed about swapping bulbs around. So I've left it now with the lights working that I want. All I need to do now is to get some new dash bulbs. I've no idea where to get them. They don't seem to have any markings on bulb or the white plastic holder. Anyone any ideas where to shop?
Just one other thing, the handbook says that the display that shows the ambient temp., also shows mpg etc., and to change the display you push the button on the end of the wiper stalk. Well, this doesn't move. I took the button off and pushed down with a screw driver, the base bit in the bottom goes up and Down but it doesn't change the display, it sits at outside temp. all the time. Anyone know how to fix this please?
Thanks again everyone for your help.
