Cruise Control - Manual how does it work?

Post by Quackers »

I have only ever used cruise on automatic's like my MK2 C5, how does it work on say the manual phase I C5? If i lower the cruise speed the car auto changes gear for me , but guessing the manual cannot do this, will it just stall or is there some magic?

cruise works in 4th and 5 gear only you have to select the best gear for the speed it will stall if you select to lower speed i only use mine from 30 mph upwards can handle this speed in either gear but best in 4th

And only above a certain speed (28mph? IIRC), below that it simply won't activate.

And if you press the clutch (or brake pedal) it deactivates. I would guess if you knock it out of gear without the clutch it also deactivates.

My c5s manual or auto only work at 26mph and above. The mk1 and mk2 were manuals. The mk1 worked in third so was fine for town. The mk2 only in top two gears. So town driving not so good. Ok on flat but any hill and it was labouring the 1.6 hdi
My mk3 is still 26mph but is auto and much more useful for using in town.

My mark one was a 2.2 with 5 speed box. Maybe that's why ?

My mk2, being a 6 speed, works in 4th, 5th and 6th. 4th is fine for 30mph, where I tend to use the cruise almost all of the time, if its safe to do so.
