C5 service indicator

Post by Peter.N. »

How do I reset the above, I thought I had done it before by holding the mileage reset in while turning the ignition on - unless that was with another car. Its the 2.2.

Thanks

Peter

Thats how i'v done it on mine Peter. Isnt it hold down for 10 seconds, ignition on, and then hold down whilst the service indicator counts down from 10 to 1 (roughly another 10 seconds), Sam
Edit: although I think the knob to push down is the other one, not the mileage reset, the display dim (right hand knob on mine)

Yes, it is the trip reset button you hold for a few seconds, turn on the ignition and keep hold, it will count down to 0.

It is the service indicator and not the service word light up orange?

Yes Peter thats a little different. The procedure outlined above is used to get rid of the little spanner that appears on the odometer when the car is due for a service. The orange 'Service' light denotes the car thinks it has a problem of some sort and can't be turned off by the above.

I think if they are really overdue a service then it does light up, what does the mileage to next service show when your first start up? if it is showing its overdue then its most likely that.

That 'service' word usually lights when its reporting a problem, could be something like low windscreen wash fluid or something more serious. Time to try out your Lexia perhaps.

Do you get a beep when your first start up? Often the light word is linked to a message on the central screen, but not always.

Ahhh didnt realise that lit up as well.I assume you must have to be waaaayyy over then! If i remember rightly doesn't the odometer display increments of 50 miles or so when overdue? Can't remember if there's a '-' sign before it or not.Usually don't let it get down to less than 2 or 3k to go before having a service.

Mine has had that showing for quite a while due to the airbag fault warning popping up. I fixed that last week and the service light's now off.

My airbag fault was a high resistance in the clockspring wiring in the steering column stalk switch.

Thanks for the info. I think I reset the indicator when I changed the oil but will check. It can't possibly need an oil change as its had two in two thousand miles! I had just changed it when I smashed my sump.

Was that your original car or the one you had from over here? Been meaning to catch you online to ask how it's going and if you ever got down to diagnosing the water loss issue.Fingers crossed everything ok:).

The early one wideboy, I'm still using both, haven't done anything with the water problem yet on the one I had off you but it's definitely the head gasket pressuring the system, working outside is a no no at the moment. :( It will go a couple of hundred miles before needing a top up though.

That would be it then, I fitted a set of leather seats in it a while back and its showing an air bag fault, my Lexia tells me it the passenger seat ignitor, which probably means the plug under the seat, I think its only since then that the light has been on. I am swapping the seats into the red one when I get it back on the road and the seats are OK in that so hopefully that will cure it. Thanks.
