Xantia S1 - synching IR plipper - SOLVED

Post by Old-Guy »

The lock button switch broke, so I put the electronic guts from a spare fob in the existing case and tested it by checking that the IR led flashes (visible on laptop's webcam).

I've done this once before (a couple of years ago) with no problem using advice from Forum posts. Now, using the notes I made last time, it doesn't work and after looking at relevant posts (most now refer to RF plippers), I can't see what I'm doing wrong.

My (unsuccessfully) procedure to synchronise it several times on two different occasions:
- wife's (fobless) key in 'ignition', plip in left hand.
- turn key to AUX (1st position)
- as dash battery light comes on, press Lock button several times at roughly 1 second intervals
- turn off and remove key
- try to lock with plipper - nothing happens.

HELP!

It's not the end of the world, but it's a real PITA having to unlock/lock the car with the key in the driver's door with both hands full when loading/unloading.

Thanks Paul,

Took 3 more attempts. I'd actually given up after the 3rd, had checked through the Handbook (nothing relevant) and, wondering "What next? New batteries?") pressed the lock button to see how bright the red LED was, "CRASH!" central locking operated - nearly had a coronary!

For the benefit of anybody else, this is exactly what I did (3rd time):
- Held plipper about 3" below dome with IR LED pointing up at it
- Turned fobless key to 2nd position (Ignition ON)
- Immediately pressed Lock (1) then Alarm (2) - repeating alternate buttons 5 or 6 times.
Ignition off and key out; immediately tried plipper - nothing happened - Aargh! :x
- Waited (about 5 minutes, but that's probably far longer than necessary)
- Tried plipper again - RESULT! :-D
