2009 Citroen C5 1.6 HDI - DIY Full Service

Post by spako »

I don't fancy spending hundreds of pounds at stealers and I am going to do the full service myself.

What's on my list:

- oil change (Total Quartz Ineo ECS 5W30 from eBay)
- oil filter (Guttmann from ECP)
- fuel filter (Delphi from ECP)
- air filter (not in stock at ECP, they have one for 2010 model - not sure if it's the same one though)
- pollen filter (not in stock at ECP, will get a carbon one from GSF)
- brake fluid change (Pagid Dot 4)
- new wiper blades (Bosch 22" and 28")
- other fluid top ups, tyre pressures check, vacuum & wash.

Did I miss anything? Would you change/add anything?

I've only had this car for a few days and never serviced a Citroen before. How difficult is to get to the filters etc?

Any suggestions/recommendations/advice?

By "fuel system cleaner" do you mean a fuel additive like Millers?

What air intake cleaner do you recommend?

Any recommendation for engine oil flush?

It's in a pipe thing maybe a banjo bolt. Right side.
As you can tell I don't do my own stuff.
If that thing clogs, which it can on early engines, your turbo screwed. It also serves as an early indicator of something amiss if it starts to get stuff in.
Later versions of the engine which would hopefully include yours had a redesigned less cloggable filter.

Will "Millers Diesel Power Ecomax" do the trick?

I'm just reading forums on engine flush and majority of people advise not to do it as it may cause harm to the engine...

Is it worth it then?

I believe Ford dealers do a flush on this engine when serviced.

i used it on mine it was the first time i had serviced this engine and the amount of sludge it fetched out was unbelievable but now i know the engine is clean and has got the proper oil in and will be changed every 6000 miles i probably wont need to use it again. damage is useualy caused by people putting it in and driveing the car around for a week or two just follow the instructions. the choice is yours realy. a lot of dealers do an oil flush as part of the service.

thinking back the 2.0 hdi xsara i had with full citroen dealer service history had flush used on every service

I'd love to know if they actually flushed it, rather than just charged for the flush....
