2009 C5 Parking Sensors question

Post by spako »

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum and to the Citroen brand, so please bear with me.

I've purchased 59 Reg C5 1.6 HDi 16V 110hp DPFS VTR Plus Nav Tourer 2 days ago and today is the first day I can actually drive the car. I have a question regarding parking sensors. They simply don't work even though the car was advertised as including parking sensors.

Initially I thought it's a blown fuse (F14 in C compartment) but it seems to be OK.

I'm not sure now if the rear bumper has only got the blanks for the sensors or the actual sensors.

BTW, System Check on the dash shows no faults.

Any idea how to check if my car have parking sensors installed without removing them?

They will be sensors, not blanks I think. From memory the VTR + Nav has them as standard equipment. There should be a switch on the dash. to the left of the radio or heating controls . Top button switches on and off ESP, and the lower one is for the sensors I think. The button has a P)))) with a little bell symbol beside it or on it I think.

Nope - 'fraid the VTR+NAV doesn't have them as standard. Best to check the sensor locations behind the rear bumper to see if there's any wires coming from them - then you'd know for sure. The descriptions that the cars are advertised with can't always be trusted, especially if sold by a Main Stealer, I think they even put a disclaimer on the Citroen Stealers website saying you can't trust the descriptions !
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

Thanks guys.

I'll have a closer look at the bumper at some point tomorrow.

BTW, there are 2 blanks below ESP button so I'm guessing there are no parking sensors either.

How much and how difficult would it be to fit aftermarket/OEM parking sensors? Please note, I already got holes in the bumper ;-)

You can buy aftermarket parking kits, 4 sensors, control unit and buzzer on ebay from China for around £10. Connect to reversing lights. Cheaper than fixing the original.. If fitting to the front include an on off switch (otherwise they go off in traffic at lights etc) and wire to 12v supply

Spako how did you get on?

I have the exact same car and question.

I can imagine some rear end damage if I don't get something sorted before my girlfriend takes to the road

Sorry to drag up an old thread but can anyone tell me where the parking sensor ECU is on my car.

Thanks,
Gav.

Where the spare wheel is, to the right, mounted on the side, a black rectangular module easy to see.

I had this problem on my mk1. It's always an idea to check the switch on the gearbox- I think it also controls the reversing lights.
If there's no beep when you select reverse, there's the clue.

Definitely check the reversing lights come on when she is in reverse. One other thing that is linked to the reverse switch (logically, that is) is the ventilation system. When the car is in reverse the ventilation system switches to recycling the air, so as not to draw in exhaust fumes.

@rogerc5 & @ Hell Razor5543 Guys - this original thread was started back 9 years ago! GavinPJ just added a recent post asking about the location of the ECU - that's all - nothing about reversing lights or about anything not working....
