Xantia 1.9d cutting out

Post by mirafioriman »

I have a theory on this but here goes:

Twice recently my Xantia 1.9d has cut out. Both times this happened when slowing down and changing down gears when approaching a roundabout. Tonight it did a similar thing but didn't cut out the warning lights just flickered briefly then it recovered itself.

I'm guessing here it could need the anti-stall adjusted slightly? Both times that it has cut out it started immediately first time and ran fine afterwards.

If not the anti-stall anyone got any other ideas?

Anti stall yes or idle speed is too low

Test:

Try both hot and cold. Let engine idle.

Very quickly (press it quick) increase engine speed to about 2000 or maybe 2500 rpm. Immediately let go the moment you get to that speed so it drops quickly. Watch tacho for "bounce" below normal idle speed if it does not cut out.

I'd personally say give the anti stall a 1/2 turn to see then re-set idle speed if its been 'adjusted' by altering the antistall.

When did you last change the fuel filter?

Thanks guys. Fuel filter was changed about two months back when I serviced it. It had never cut out until I had the recent issues with pump top cover leaks and waxstat changes etc. I've raised the idle a bit today and I'm going to run it for a few days and see what happens.

I've never adjusted the anti-stall since I've had the car, but I have messed around with the idle adjustments so I'm trying the idle speed adjuster first.

I think its likely that you still have air getting in somewhere.

Does it cut out a few miles down the road from cold start? Mine did last year and it turned out to be a leaking fuel filter housing.

Both times it has happened when the temperature gauge is about the 70 degree mark. It's only happened twice in the last month mind.
